I say just keep it simple.

If you violate it the player gets cut, the contract gets cut, and he goes back in the FA pool the next sim. Then everyone can bid on them again the next sim except for the original team. No other punishments. If it causes someone to lose a sandwich pick they get that round pick from the original team who broke the rule.

It is an honor code driven league and I don't see any problems, but it's an easy rule to enforce and the punishment is simple as well.

I think it becomes difficult to really monitor because we are ignoring the other offers. What if that unfair contract was won by an owner that beat out another owner doing the same thing? That second owner is never found and they jump in to sign the player at a fair deal.

I just think it's too short sighted to just blame the guilty party. This league has taken the brave step of removing problem owners. I trust that clay will exercise that right if need be.

So in other words I wouldn't release the player from his contract. But we already know that the guilty owner will face the wrath of his fellow owners of the league. No matter how it's done, I don't see that owner surviving in the league for long. Should we punish the replacement owner? Any drastic move will only do that.

Seriously, we came up with the trade committee early on for crazy deals. I don't believer we ever got to use our hammer.

There's plenty of old owners never leaving and newer ones that aren't so new anymore. If we see a crazy deal, someone bring it up. We can discuss it and vote on it if necessary.

I really don't see the need for more rules, especially on this.

I believe that most of us will not be pleased with an owner that purposely takes advantage of the ai in a human league. Right now we have jokes but no matter how many times Some owners argue here, it is hardly over their intention to cheat the ai and thus the other owners.

I could see a new player handing out some ridiculous bonus money believing they found an advantage but that can easily be corrected. Real cheaters will always cheat. Anyone driven out of the league will have a history that warrants it. I think this league's past has proven that.

That's the problem, it wouldn't be easy to reproduce league files for one person breaking a rule that I'm not convinced needs to be set. To me, it all falls under our generic "fair play" or honor system. Does anyone ever feel like they got screwed out of a FA because of a bonus offer? I know that rules aren't necessarily based only on an issue taking place in the past, but I seriously fear the ripple effect.

- We do a "no day resim" and someone misses it and then has a bad export... now someone else is penalized who had nothing to do with the issue.

- We undo a contract as part of SIM and the player falls from the FA period to the ST sims and now he lowers his price therefore screwing someone on a sandwich pick... now someone else is penalized.

Again, I fully 100% support everyone writing up a proposal in a thread... let's talk it out and come up with something to vote on. I'm just chiming in my two cents.

I agree with this post 100%. Look to the NCFA to see how this can very easily happen.

Like Matt, I wish I had thought to ask about bonuses earlier. Maybe I would have been able to land a top tier Free Agent or two the last couple of seasons. Having said that, this current sim has proven once again that Free Agents just don't like to sign with Los Lunas, regardless of the contract offer. I'm starting to suspect that most high-priced players also have a built-in aversion to smaller market teams in their personality ratings. What am I going to do with all this cash? Maybe it will come in handy as part of a trade offer.

I'm not exactly sure how the game handles bonus money, but since we can all offer it... I'm not sure what the problem is. If someone wants to offer a 7 million dollar bonus, let 'em get stuck with that when they actually have to pay it out. It's not like the rest of us couldn't have offered the same thing.

The issue is when the bonus is unattainable. That's the real gripe, I believe.

If you can manipulate contract offers (offer less money and an obscene amount of bonus money) then you can take an expensive player at a fraction of the cost without facing the repercussions (well, except for our wrath. That's not something anyone would want to face).
