I think the vote for the New Brew will be more interesting though between Rojas and Pancho Perez. Both make strong cases but I think my guy wins out.

If it weren't for the hitters, I wouldn't even have to pimp Buzzsaw. But, I already know that hitting will always win the eye of voters over pitching.

And that's not a complaint. It's hard to overlook 30 HR and 100 RBI from a rookie. I don't know if a 13-4 record with an ERA under 4 compares. Maybe if my guy won 18 games and had an ERA under 3.

Now just getting to numbers, the only place Perez really has an advantage over Rojas is batting average (.332 vs. .316) but Rojas really takes it to him in every other category. Rojas has more hits (204), more HR (34 vs. 29), more RBI (117 vs. 110) and a much higher VORP (75.2 vs. 47.3). Rojas also drew more walks than Perez and had significantly more extra base hits.

Rojas also had 85 more AB's which probably makes your RBI, HR, Hits numbers all moot as Perez wasn't that far behind. Would probably close the VORP gap as well. Perez also had a better OBP, walks be damned (actually their OPS was identical). Perez actually stole some bases (12) too

Perez won the rookie of the month award, twice.

Oh, and he actually played defense (and not just in IL parks)

Jermaine Ednams, 2B - Batavia Muckdogs

Jermaine came via trade from Davenport a few seasons back and after working his way through the Muckdogs system was given the chance from day one. Over the course of the year he responded to the pressures of being a 22 year old starting for a BLB team and we think deserves the IL New Brew Award. On the year Ednams hit .329/.386/.455 with 13 HR's, 72 RBI's and 30 stolen bases. He also walked 55 times while striking out 50 times.

Key stats sorted for rookies:

- #1 in batting average (#3 overall in IL)
- #1 in OBP
- #1 in RC/27
- #1 in VORP (49.8)
- #1 in hits
- #1 in runs scored
- #1 in stolen bases
- #1 in walks
