The undeniable leader of the Colonials, O'Hegarty has taken a backseat to Superstars Woodbury and Gremades and "Favorite Son" Danny Nelson, but the Shortstop quietly turned in one of his greatest seasons to next to no pomp and circumstance.

Everardo Gremades (1B)

After a mid-season trade that moved the '85 DL Stout Slugger to the IL for the first time in his career, his split statistics became overshadowed in big picture. But when you combine his stats from both leagues, Gremades season deserves Stout Slugger consideration.

Jayson McQueen (MR)

McQueen started the season as the 5th Starter but quickly moved back to his natural home in the bullpen. The 26 year old fireballer spent most of the season in the setup role, but will be the likely candidate to become the full-time Closer in '90. For now, McQueen was a shutdown 'pen arm this season in every role he played.

Not deserving of 1st. Nor a 2nd. But I think you have to consider Mike Murdock for a 3rd place finish. Pretty spectacular season for a catcher:

IL Last Call Relief

Half the season with Davenport, half with Washington, RP Roger Simonds had one of his best seasons ever:

71 G, 10-3, 23 saves, 74 IP, 2.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 25 VORP, 75 K, Great with women

Really, my team MVP, Carl Pateshall. Didn't have the best second half, but still a phenomenal season. Arguably worthy of 2nd or 3rd (no one is catching Herrera in votes):

20-5, 3.04 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 198 IP, 163 K, 49.4 VORP

I guess Martin Carlton wasn't so bad either:

You can’t spell IL Stout Slugger without Geoff Scott . . . ., well you can, but you shouldn’t.

- Turned in the All-Time single season VORP rating in the history of the league, not just the IL at 104.17

- Batting line of: .328 | .440 | .582 | 1.022

Pancho Perez or Don O'Finegan. Could make a solid case for either of those guys. Perez probably gets the nod if you ask me.

DL Last Call:

Vernon Simmonds. His resume speaks for itself and he was pretty much the only one worth a damn in my bullpen this year.

DL Stout Slugger:

This is locked up already, but Perez might steal some 3rd place votes.

DL Pale Ale:

Definitely not #1 on the ballot, but Parongao had a solid year for me.

Owen Gilbertson (LF)

Gilbertson was the engine behind the Kodiaks offense this year. Obviously while he isn't going to win the award, I think he deserves some recognition for how good his year was. So any second or third place votes would be appreciated!

Joe Negron (MR)

Negron for a second year in a row broke the BLB record for games pitched in a season. Last year he set the pace at 100 games, this year he threw 103. Just look at the numbers, Negron deserves the award.

DL New Brew/Stout Slugger Candidate

Joe Rojas

The 21 year old who was obtained from Maine in 1986 for reliever Troy Sisk had a monster year in his debut season. He set Mississippi single season records in batting average, hits, HR, SLG, and RBI.

.316/.366/.917 with 34 HR and 116 RBI is an incredible stat line for a 21 year old rookie.

I think he makes a strong case to be on ballots for the Stout Slugger.

I think the vote for the New Brew will be more interesting though between Rojas and Pancho Perez. Both make strong cases but I think my guy wins out.

Rojas was the center-piece of this offense for most of this season- he didn't have a ton of help around him. The Storm play in a notorious pitcher's park (.841 AVG park factor and .817 HR factor vs. Sin City 1.085 AVG and 1.046 HR). Rojas hit 17 HR and still OPS'd above .900 despite playing in one of the most extreme pitcher's parks in the BLB (along with Philly).

Now just getting to numbers, the only place Perez really has an advantage over Rojas is batting average (.332 vs. .316) but Rojas really takes it to him in every other category. Rojas has more hits (204), more HR (34 vs. 29), more RBI (117 vs. 110) and a much higher VORP (75.2 vs. 47.3). Rojas also drew more walks than Perez and had significantly more extra base hits.
