CHICAGO, IL, -
Play Ball '82 Chairman T.J. Cutini, currently in Chicago attending Game 1 of the Brewmaster's Championship, released a statement today, in response to the birth of two other ownership groups hoping to attract an expansion BLB franchise. Groups in Memphis, TN and Salt Lake City, UT announced their intentions of landing a team yesterday, shortly after Play Ball '82 announced Charlotte's candidacy for an expansion franchise.
"Competition is always a good thing. None of us expect it to be easy to convince the powers that be that Charlotte is the best place to put a BLB franchise," Cutini said. "We're not going to bad mouth anyone throughout this process. We feel like our energy is best spent convincing people that Charlotte should have a team, rather than trying to convince them that another city shouldn't have one."
Play Ball '82 is an organization hoping to bring a major pro sports franchise to the Queen City, something they haven't had since the ABA's Carolina Cougars left for St. Louis at the end of the 1974 season.
"The people in this city have been patient, and we appreciate that. This will not be an easy road to travel down," Cutini added. "With the birth of two other organizations hoping to land a BLB franchise, we know we have a fight on our hands, but we welcome the challenge. The time is now for the great citizens of Charlotte to show the nation why Brewer's League Baseball belongs in the Queen City."
