A third city has entered the race to gain an expansion team in the BLB, and that is none other than Salt Lake City! Financial backer, and founder of the "People for the Ethical Treatment of Salt Lake City" (the group which is heading up the pro baseball project in Salt Lake City) David Lint held a rally today just after 12:00 pm MST at the EnergySolutions Arena home of the Utah Jazz. Lint spoke to a crowd filled with rowdy college co-ed's from both BYU and Utah as he laid out his plans to bring a professional baseball franchise to the state capital. Lint had this to say about his plans for the future... "It's the 80's baby, you've got one life to live and you have to LIVE IT UP! So I'm looking around, and I'm thinking Salt Lake City needs a pro baseball team baby, it's just a natural fit. We don't have a team name as of yet, but we're open to suggestions from people that want to write in and help name the team."
Lint also cautioned that just because he officially put S.L.C. in the running for a team, there is no guarantee that the city will be awarded a club by the BLB. "It's an ongoing process, two groups have already put in bids for Memphis and Charlotte, and with seven other groups including myself interested in four spots there's a real possibility that we will not get chosen as one of the new teams for the BLB."
When asked what type of fan support Lint was expecting if the Salt Lake City area was granted a team he responded with the following, "Well, we expect family night to be a huge hit."
