Plus, Bayer blew the save in the 9th when all he needed was 1 more strike, so he kind of had it coming.

Dirty pool from Washington and Philly... no shock. Thank goodness neither will be back in the IL Management role next season.

You're buying stock in Carolina and California?! Come on.

              Seriously.

The IL is a two horse race between the Stout teams.

                California Kodiaks (55-43)
                1-2 vs. Washington
                3-1 @ Baltimore

                THE GOOD

-- The Road is where the heart is - Big time series win for the Kodiaks as they went to Baltimore and took three out of four. If you want to make the playoffs, you have to be able to win on the road in your division.

-- Jackson thrills - Rookie Tad Jackson had a big week at the dish going 6-11 with 2 HR's a double and two walks. For the year Jackson has a solid .357 OBP and a respectable .774 OPS.

-- Goodwin loves California - Curt Goodwin has seen a revival since his trade back to California. Pitching against the vaunted Bats offense, Goodwin went 8 IP, giving up 2 R, and striking out 7 while walking none. In 25.2 IP since the trade, Goodwin has posted a 1.75 ERA and a 23/4 K/BB rate. To say I'm pleased would be an understatement.

                THE BAD

-- Xi, not so clutch - New closer Tsu-wee Xi had a meltdown in his first save chance against Washington blowing a 3-1 game and taking the loss 4-3. Xi did come back later in the week and pitch two scoreless innings for two saves... but he's on a short leash, to be sure.

-- Has anyone seen Robby Shannon? - Since being named to the all-star game, Shannon has completely vanished from my offense. I'm giving him a day off this week to hopefully collect his thoughts and get on a roll again... but its clear to me, when Shannon doesn't hit, no one on my offense does.

                ON-DECK

Huge week in the division as we host the first place Philadelphia Freedom for three and then welcome the Muckdogs from Batavia for four. Hopefully some time at home will help the Kodiaks.
