Really enjoyable 5-1 sim, finally giving us some separation over Dallas and Denver.

2-1 vs Hyundai, 3-0 @ Mississippi

The offense keeps rolling along, even without our best hitter Clint Underwood in the lineup. Hector Carbajal is a beast. Joe Cuevas is providing some needed pop near the bottom of the lineup. Rancourt keeps hitting. Cannell is back to form, as he's raised his average about 22 points over the last couple sims.

Our pitching was good this sim, and if we can get any sort of consistency out of our starters after Aurillo and O'Rogan, I like our chances down the stretch. Aurillo showed back up on the top players list, which I think is good, and he's seemed to get back on form over the last 5-6 starts. Newly acquired Tynan Brown will hopefully be halfway decent as a starter; at least that's what I'm banking on.

I don't understand this game sometimes. My scout hated him. He sucked on my A team. Now he's a top prospect throwing 7 mph harder than he did when I had him. I know young prospects change, but I sure didn't see this one coming. I'm sure he'd have completely flamed out if I'd have held on to him, but he's destined for greatness now.

That is one thing I see from a LOT of teams in the BLB. They give up on prospects too early. I mean, even if Tucker, at the time, was projected by your scout to never make the majors, did you give him a shot? Did you give the player a chance to prove your scout wrong? 5th round picks are semi-valuable in this league and all you are going to get out of the guy is a handful of Single-A games?

As an 18-year-old, he only pitched in eight relief appearances. Then, as a 19-year-old, he pitched in six games, poorly and was then cut. That's it? That's all your going to try and get from your 5th round pick? That year, your Single-A club went 49-71, 6th in the division. I can't imagine he was getting good support from his pen, defense or in run support. I highly doubt he was replaced on the roster with anything of value from free-agency.

I do agree, that he became a pitcher after leaving the Carolina organization. Would he ever developed into anything good if had stayed? Who knows. But he definitely isn't going to turn into anything for Carolina when he is playing for another organization.

Don't worry, it's not just you. I'm always active in keeping an eye out for minor league free-agents. Another man's garbage is another man's treasure? Something like that. A lot of teams (as you will see below) often set their draft to auto, and then cut half of their draft picks in the later rounds. What? How does that make sense? There are teams around the league that have 28+ year olds in Single-A. There are teams that have guys over 30 in Double and Triple-A. Those guys are scrubs. Take a chance on a younger guy. Maybe he can develop.

Cut after three and a half seasons with Baltimore, where it looks like he was rushed. In Triple-A by 20, where he hit just .229. Signed by Washington six months later. He hasn't reached the majors yet but my scout thinks he can be a good bench option at the next level.

There are others as well that I know I am forgetting. Some that have probably gone on to other teams in trades. For every Derrek Tucker I can give you five guys that didn't make it. Take it for what it's worth.

Great sim heading into the all-star break. Managed to create a little bit of breathing room with Los Lunas. Gugs steps in as advertised with a 7.0 IP 4 H 1 ER 1 BB 9K performance.

The Good

The offense continues to shine despite it's youth: 11 HR 43 RBI .356 BA .420 OBP .566 SLG this sim. Even Haydon has been contributing lately and trying to earn some of his contract. (Looking back, trading for Haydon and his horrible contract wasn't the worst thing I've ever done as a GM, cause he's been decent, but it definitely wasn't the best)

The OK

My pitching keeps coming in as average. The veterans are doing what they do. It appears Kelly has turned the corner from last year and is being the setup guy I need him to be behind Simmonds. The all star break couldn't have come at a better time, Kraft appears to be struggling a little bit so I have the opportunity to bump him to the #2 or 3 spot in the rotation to maybe take some pressure off. Marin has been exceeding expectations this season and looks to be turning into the pitcher my scout thought he would be 2-3 years ago.

The Bad

Can't find much to complain about in the BLB, though I would like to be a little deeper in middle relief and backup IF.

The Ugly

Looking over my farm system a bit though and with the exception of a handful of guys....yikes. Luckily I'm really young at BLB and will hopefully have a few years (and hopefully some lucky drafts) to replenish.

On Deck

Great to have some all-stars playing this season (I can't remember if I had one last year). Especially nice to see Perez make his first all-star game during his rookie season. Looking forward to the second half of the season. Things are far more exciting when you aren't making a run at the co-commish cup!!

I can't tell if he was auto-picked or if I put him on the list manually. That draft doesn't appear to be my finest work. He's just taken a huge jump since he left my team. I'm also on the lookout for minor league FAs. I noticed you signed Artie Crites a few sims back, a guy I also offered a minor league deal to (he turned my offer down in favor of yours).

I can understand the logic. I bet it probably was an auto pick. He didn't get much playing time immediately after the draft. Then, your scout gets another look in the off-season, and maybe he was something like 5-3-4, and he is now 4-2-4. So, he has no BLB projection, then he starts the year giving up nearly two hits an inning? You are thinking, "this guy is a complete fucking scrub."

It's just....sometimes scouts are wrong. I have had prospects that on draft day, my scout loves, then when he gets a second or third look when he is on the organization, his opinion changes to much worse but the stats are still good. Then in a year or two, they are back to that initial potential.

He has been in Triple-A for five years. His first two, he hit .283 then .327. Then, he hit just .148. Now, the past two, he has hit .283 and .293. It happens.

I followed the league for several seasons before getting a team. It actually helped quite a bit when I finally joined . . .plus it's a great time kill.
