FWIW Newlin had 81 PA with RISP and Nino had 90 so their opportunities are pretty much a wash.

How do you in one sentence say that stats that hinge on other players are insignificant, then throw up RISP... the ultimate stat the hinges on other players?
Because AVG with RISP is an individual stat. It tells you what the player did with his chance. Runs and RBI's are just a product of quantity of runners on base.

Only if Woodbury gets hurt. The numbers he's putting up despite missing over 25% of the season are unreal. That includes the fact that he has more HOME games left at the second friendliest lefty park in the IL.

          To many rings to count...

Hmm, an almost over-confident Virginia GM, that's a new sight.

Its still a long season left and there are very durable players putting up good numbers this year. We'll see.

Oh, believe me, I count no chickens, eggs, baskets, or anything else. I'm just saying that the numbers Woodbury has put up are pretty remarkable considering his sample size.

While there is no MVP award...I assume that we are referring to Stout Slugger?

We do have some legit candidates this year however. I think if Woodbury doesn't miss a game and continues this pace the rest of the way, yes, it's his to lose. But just because he missed 25% of this short season is more a hindrance than it is a bonus. MAP lost the SS to Shannon because he played 145 to Shannon's 162. He had the better VORP and OPS, but the raw numbers, were better for Shannon because he had more opportunities.

With that said, I will say the candidates include:
                -Woodbury
                -Shannon
                -Abbott
                -Gilbertson
                -Boyd
                -Romo

Plus, I would argue there can always be dark horses, MAP and Alvarez (amongst others), could have big second halves.

Well while you guys fight it out for starters, I'd like to make my case for the coaches' picks.

                  Amistad Caballero: .300/.373/.576, 17 HR, 53 RBI

Last year's IL MVP runner up is having another great season. Tied for the IL lead in homers, and a .352/.471/.662 in this important RISP stat, he really should be a top consideration for the 1989 IL All-Star Team.

                  Loren Wallace: .329/.365/.504, 8 HR, 45 RBI, 6 SB

I predicted that he would win ROY in 1990, I guess he may do it early. A real catalyst to our offense, he is awesome in the outfield, and we think he deserves it.

                  I'll post my pitchers later.

Careful...one thing I have learned over the years is that pimping too many players can kill your chances. Not because people get annoyed at how good your team is, because they get confused and sometimes it splits votes.

It would be pretty cool if the manager picked a player off my team.

I thought his hate was only extended to fellow Stout members.

Point taken. I feel assured that there is an unbiased, Porter representative included.
