Carolina Tobs: 40-30, 1st in Bock
Last Sim: 0-3 @ Wilmington, 3-0 vs Batavia

The Good

-Our good play at home continued with a 3 game sweep of the Muckdogs. I have nothing to complain about in that series as we hit and pitched well.

-Jimmy Joy had another good week, hitting .348. Unfortunately Curt Boyd looks like a shoe-in at SS for the all-star game but Joy deserves some recognition.

-The Bad

-We lost all 3 games @ Wilmington by one run apiece. Just no hitting in that series.

-Hector Castre is out for the remainder of the season with a ruptured tendon in his finger. Our pitching is done. Simply done. I just hope the same can’t be said for his career now but with our luck he’ll probably regress terribly.

Up Next

-We get 3 at home against Baltimore before hitting the road to take on the Bats. With our pitching staff in shambles and our inconsistent bats, it could get ugly. Luckily we’ve built a solid lead in the division because this ship is going to start taking on water.

Another sim, another game back

I let a lot of my great bullpen arms walk last year, I should have been more aggressive resigning them but I expected the large number of young pen arms I have to have developed more by this point. Couple that with a SEI to Don Leonard, and we are in a world of hurt.

Sin City is just too good this year. Those few years of struggling gave them the opportunity to draft the Pancho Perez's and Von Haynes and also gave them the money to shore up the rotation. They're a really good team.

2-4 week; 31-39 overall - 9 GB

We're just kinda slipping away. Another bad week of pitching doomed us.

Good

- SS Jermaine Edmonds continues his quest for rook of the year. He hit .360 this week with 2 HRs...he's now hitting .335/.381/.461 with 6 HR's and 41 RBI's.
- C Tauro Hidrogo continues to amaze me...hitting .400 this week. He's now at .304/.384/.436 on the year.
- SP Zander Walters had another strong game in only his 2nd start since being called up. 6.7 IP, 1 ER.

Bad

- SP Cam Mills. 0 IP, 0 outs, 5 ER. One game he'll throw 8 innings and allow 1 run, the next 2 innings and allow 5. I don't know why I still let him play.
- 3B Robby Crockett...24 AB's, 5 hits, 3 HR's.
- MR Ken Ketcham gave Los Alamos the win and prevented the Muckdog sweep by allowing 5 runs to score in the 8th. He will no longer be the setup man.

Signed former Hartford great, CF Frank Donegan this sim. One year, $350k.

My scout has him 4-5-5-5-4. Says he could be a bottom of the order hitter or bench bat. Should be solid as a #5 OF. In '84 Donegan hit .313 with 31 HRs, 34 doubles, 11 triples, 111 RBI and 30 SB....and no one noticed.

Has anyone ever taken a look at Gil Melgoza (1B - DAL) and his career stat line?

He's really a cool story. Every other year he's great. I've never seen anything like it.

1983 - .290/.342/.422/.764 VORP of 28.9 (628 AB)
1984 - .241/.303/.347/.650 VORP of -2.7 (631 AB)
1985 - .307/.365/.489/.854 VORP of 43.9 (505 AB)
1986 - .248/.313/.423/.736 VORP of 15.6 (608 AB)
1987 - .279/.330/.494/.824 VORP of 44.5 (664 AB)
1988 - .235/.306/.398/.703 VORP of 1.9 (571 AB)
1989 - .292/.366/.490/.856 VORP of 19.5 (257 AB's and counting)

I guess Jim should just sit him on the even years!

Oh yeah, I've definitely noticed. From this article: http://www.simgamingnetwork.com/show...?e=300&catid=2

Gil Melgoza (1B): Another player who alternates very solid years with very mediocre years, this typically would be one of Melgoza’s down years. In anticipation of that, Melgoza hit the batting cages hard this offseason. The Snappers will need his bat to compete.
I have him signed so cheap I don't want to trade him but if I do you can bet it will be after one of the good years!

When I shopped Dave Robbins this off-season, I couldn't give him away. He is having his best season in years.

.281 // .862 // 11 HR // 41 RBI // 43 R

I'm kinda surprised Sierra hasn't been signed. He's not what he used to be, but he could still start for some teams. Last I checked, I don't think he was asking for too much. Could be wrong on that, but I'm sure he could be had for less than his asking price.
