The MLB default for service time is what we currently have ours set to, 172 days=1 season. The problem is with the custom schedules we use players accrue 184 days of service time if they're on the active roster for the whole season.
So a player who plays a full season accrues 1 year, 12 days. This is obviously a problem because it could potentially make players hit arbitration and FA sooner than they should. Teams might get screwed up if they try to do something similar to what the Rays did with Longoria by not calling him up until May so they delay Arb and FA by a year.
The solution is to change the in game setting to 184 days. However, when you do that it recalculates everyone's service time. So players who are currently eligible for FA or arbitration at the end of the season might not be anymore. Players who were re-signed already or were FA's last season might also have been eligible for arbitration one more year.
I think we should make this change ASAP so it doesn't cause future issues but I just wanted to put it out there so people are aware.
After the change is made, if you have a player who was re-signed this year who would have had one more year of arbitration, I'll give you the option to void the extension and let them go through arbitration at the end of this season.
Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about players who were affected by this issue in prior seasons.
Let me know if there are any questions.
