    SP Pat Daniels
    5-4-5/5-4-6

With the trade of Joe Rodriguez, an opening has emerged in the starting rotation. Daniels, never highly ranked by OSA or even my scout, but I'm hoping the numbers don't lie.

I'll be watching to see how Daniels does. Who's he facing this week?

The way it lines up, he will play Mississippi and Sin City. Two starts.

            Don Edgar (MR)

With the injury to Closer George McSwain, Jayson McQueen moves to the Closer spot for the next two weeks, leaving the Setup spot to rookie Ivan Olivio. McSwain may be back as quickly as a week, but just to be safe we've DL'd him till full recovery. That left an open spot in the Bullpen and we've decided to give it to Don Edgar. He's only appeared in 2 games in AAA, but he's fully developed and provides a decent temporary left arm in the Pen.

              Waylon Morgan (MR)

Interestingly enough, Morgan was an undrafted pickup of ours in '87. Showing glimpses of ability in a relief role in (A) Camden, he was immediately moved to AA ball during the '87 season. Waylon struggled against the better competition in (AA) Orlando, and ended the '87 with 6.53 ERA in Orlando.

Last year in Orlando, Morgan was moved into a starting role. He posted a respectable 4.15 ERA in 13 starts and, amazingly, only allowed one home run in 69 innings. This solid performance earned Waylon a starting spot in Annapolis this year.

Through the season in Annapolis, Morgan has been very solid posting a 3.62 ERA through 26 starts. He has improved in nearly every statistical category since being promoted to AAA ball and our scouts believe that there is nothing else that Waylon can learn while in the minors.

Morgan would have likely been a September call-up anyway, however, with Annapolis not making the Horizon League playoffs this year and Baltimore starter, Chad Stafford, getting injured, Morgan will get an early taste of big league play.

The Virginia Colonials are only making one September call-up at this point pending injuries....

                Lonnie Scott (CF)

In the 6th round of the 1985 draft, the Colonials took the little fire hydrant out of Georgia because they liked his versatility. He plays the outfield at a high level, hits switch and runs the bases well - all skills that the Colonials lacked in their system at the time. Lonnie Scott started slow and his progression was nearly halted completely when a torn abdominal cost him 7 weeks and then, in his very first game back, he suffered a serious concussion on the field. The youngster contemplated retirement. After making the decision to continue his career, he began a quick climb that took him to AA and eventually AAA Detroit early this season. The 26 year old responded with an All-Star year in the Horizon League where he's hit .333/.418/.554/.972 with 23 HRs and 76 driven in. Scott joins the big club and will give Danny Nelson a few days off in the OF during the stretch run.

                  Raul Jimenez - SP

With the injury to SP Cristofor Villazon, the Bats have an open spot in the rotation. Jimenez was the 30th overall pick in the '84 draft. Just 23 years old, but has over 300 innings of Triple-A experience. My scout thinks he is good enough to be a back-end starter. OSA likes him even better. Good control, good movement, average stuff.

                    Derrek Tucker - SP

#14 Prospect. Key piece in the Russ McEvoy trade. Started the year in Double-A. Just pitched seven shutout innings of four hit baseball in the Triple-A Championship game however.
