  • SIM COMPLETE - 1980 - Sim 22

Interesting week. I went 5-2 but lost my middle infield. Bermeo is out 1-2 weeks, but Jose Sanchez is out 5 weeks which could hurt come playoff time.

The good news is Hyundai is just as beat up. He lost his ace, David Rumsey, for 6-7 weeks which probably means the playoffs.

    Gil O'Moore had a very good first outing. He went 6 IP, allowing 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB and 7 K's. I won the game 3-1 in 10 innings.

Looks like I'm done. Time to play Gorrie and Hansen.

Bring on the uneventful offseason with 1 or 2 FAs worth signing, then a 1981 with standings similar to 1980...and 1979....and 1978!

      Oh, and OOTP 2007...

Wow... the Whalers apparently decided to go down the shitter in August. Don't expect to see another export from me until 2009.

Only 4-3 this week, but I finally picked up a few games on Wilmington to stretch my lead to 6.5 games with 27 to play. August POTM Tim Nathan has been utterly dominant lately and recent OF callup Ron Boyland had 5 hits in his first 9 ABs. 1979 first rounder Jeff Franklin took a few lumps this week, but he'll be shifting to a spot starter role with Lacour back in the rotation this week.

Kellum missed all last week, and will miss all of this week, with a strained groin. He has a healthy lead in AVG and is 2 HR in front of his nearest competition, but this injury will probably cost him the RBI title and his shot at the Triple Crown. It was a good try, Pete.

6-1 this week. Our record is ridiculous. Almost a .700 winning %

We have a chance at 3 20 game winners. Hoover comes back in 3 days, Kawashima 2 days. This could be a legendary season.

....however if means nothing if don't get the trophy. And as we've proven, we aren't a good post season team.

I also don't like the fact that Dan Jones pitched during this sim. He had a day to day injury, so I left him off the pitching depth chart, but he wasn't injured enough to put on the DL. But he pitched twice in relief. I hope they fixed that for the next build.

Weird, he wasn't listed anywhere and still pitched?

                I'll test this for 07.

Yup, this was the pitching rotation I set up for this previous sim

                  No Dan Jones listed anywhere.

But he ended up pitching twice

Once for 0.2 innings, once for 5.1 innings. Thank goodness he didn't injure himself any further.

A bit belated, but....OH MY GOODNESS: A friggin Wildfire actually did something positive this season!!!!!

Monday, September 1st, 1980: IL Player of the Week Chosen: It's Ray Madonald of the California Wildfire
Ray Madonald stepped up to the plate in a big way last week, and today he took home Import League Player of the Week honors for his output in games ending Sunday. The California center fielder ripped opposing pitchers for 10 hits in 18 at-bats, a sizzling .556 batting average. He added some power with 2 extra-base hits, including no home runs, to produce an impressive 1.258 OPS average.

Madonald has hit at a .272 clip so far this season with 17 RBI, 2 home runs, and 30 runs scored.
