I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I'm trying to gain weight. So I try to get 600 calories a meal. I shoot for at least 3,000 total.

The increase is all scrubs.
That's why I waited till Mid-Feb to start my new training.

We'll have to throw you a retirement party in June...rule 13, section B of the official BLB rules:

I've been trying to lose weight for the last two, three months, and have lost about 10 lbs or so. But, I keep gaining some back. The holidays were a killer.

For me, I need to eat healthy to get my cholesterol down, so I eat oatmeal twice a day for lunch and breakfast. Then on to my problem, which is dinner. Like Andrew said earlier, my portions are out of whack. I was good for a while, but I'm back to eating like I'm never gonna eat again.

Exercise is my other problem. Don't really have the time/need to join a gym, but I do have a stationary bike, so I need to use it. For something other than a clothes hanger. Working out after work sucks, so I think I'm gonna have to start doing it before, if I can. I also have some of those workout band things.

I know my diet worked. My bad cholesterol dropped and my good cholesterol went up in the three months that I was trying to eat well/exercise, so that was good.

You guys are inspiring me with all of your workout talk though. I just need to find something that works for me and go at it.

Any exercise advice for a 47 year-old guy with bad knees? (Bad as in.. walking at a good pace for any length of time is sometimes painful.)

I also take the break til mid Feb, but this year I gained weight like crazy. My blood pressure went back up. I guess I'm too old to be taking breaks.

The new trainer killed me last night. He's a power lifter and he's all about the 80's Soviet philosophies for training athletes. Worked with him for 90 minutes, felt pretty good at the end. He says, "Yeah, your quads may be screaming tomorrow." I'm thinking, OK... whatever... I feel OK. I'm pretty tough. I was running 3-5 miles five days a week a few months ago... my legs will be fine.

Fast forward to the morning.... dude... it was hard to even put my socks on.

There is no reason to train that hard, unless you plan on lifting that hard everytime.

It wasn't about training or lifting hard. It was about technique and working muscles correctly for the first time in years.

The workout itself was very light and part of the philosophy is not working hard. Rule #1 is don't overtrain because you can't train injured.

Glad we share similar feeling about each other.

But, really, it's nice, yes, but it also sucks. It's just as hard to gain weight and be healthy as it is to be healthy and lose weight.

We're both trying to get to the same point.

My older Brother was like that till he was about 30. He use to drink ENSURE between meals just to force more calories into him. After 30, he's managed to maintain a healthier weight without any extras.
