    next sim: Monday 1/4

Ugh. Our yearly run at a mid-round draft pick begins. 4-1 sim. I'm not complaining, I love to win but I know that this is truly a horrible team. Easily the worst staff in the league. Some young bats that haven't fully developed or are beginning to show that they'll never develop.

But man... Dave Wyatt is finally turning into the guy I thought I traded for. Definately a bright spot.

      Very disappointing 2-3 week.

Losing a close series to Morgantown at home is unacceptable. Hopefully we can bounce back after the All-Star break when we start out on the road at Virginia.

Overall the first half of the season has gone well. We've been lucky that we haven't been bit by the injury bug (*knocks on wood*). Maybe a piece or two added at the deadline can fight off those consistent Playboys.

2-3 sim for us and Denver won't stop winning. Now two back in the Pilsner with some work to do.

I'm happy for my guys, but I have no comment.

I just want my minor league prospects to stay healthy. Guys are dropping like rocks with concerning injuries. McDonald is the latest casualty with shoulder inflammation. Never a starter until this year and I bet the workload is affecting him.

I was, for whatever reason, pretty excited to see Don Stevens get an allstar vote. He certainly didn't deserve to make the team, and probably didn't deserve the vote, but his "career resurgance" (if you can call it that at age 22) since moving to the pen is a nice story. 39 appearances, 47 IP, 5-0, 2.30 ERA, 1.06 WHIP.

His ratings since the switch to the pen went from 3-4-7 to 3-6-7, then I officially switched his position to MR and now he's at 4-6-7. Very servicable after the last couple years.

                4-2

                3-0 vs. Morgantown
                1-2 vs. Washington

                Good

                - SP Melon (recently acquired in trade) goes 7.1 innings, 0 ER, 7 K's, 1 BB
                - De Jesus hits .364/.400/.500 for the week with 3 doubles and 5 RBI's
                - SP Sasaki goes 1-3 with a HR (our only HR of the week)

                Bad

                - 3B Crockett has done nothing but disappoint since being called up with his .184 average

Dude. We gave up a combined 40 hits in one game. That was horrendous pitching by both clubs. Yours was just even more terrible. Don't blame the park when you give up 24 hits. Call out your pitchers.

The Pitchers sucked too... but... 3 HRs were under 320 feet and a total of 5 were less than 333. It's a small park.

                      Washington Bats (55-27)
Swept Windy City and took two of three against Batavia.

                      The Good
-I have the best record in the BLB.
-Martin Carlton finally pitched more than seven innings. A complete game shutout against Batavia.
-Dave Robbins is tied for the IL-Lead in RBI.

                      The Bad
-He isn't playing awful, but Michio Nago is not playing his best. A career .290 hitter, Nago is sporting a sub .260 average.
-Backup catcher Pepe Hernandez is struggling. A .178 average is not what I expected from one of my top prospects. But, when the batting average of your backup catcher is a concern, you really don't have much to worry about.
-I have played 20 more games at home then on the road.

                      Transaction News
-Finally got Cristofor Villazon to agree to a contract extension. I was nervous after all the low-ball offers that he would refuse to negotiate.
-I also signed free-agent SP Jason Jennings to a minor league contract last sim. My scout and OSA have him rated 4-6-5. He just turned 29. He is a lefty. He wants an extension in the $5,000,000 range. Not a bad backup plan.

Bad, bad sim for Mississippi. Got swept by Syracuse.

Samarano comes off the DL and will rejoin the team after the All-Star break. In other news, I can't tolerate the circa .200 BA with the .522 OPS(!) from my current catcher Italo Cossa. I'm moving Jared Kirby to catcher for the time being and calling up Lonnie Bolden to be my DH. Not sure how long this experiment will last, but its time for a change.
