I've moved several top players in order to survive. Some I've just had to let go to F/A. But hell I've traded away a few potential hall of famers before I wanted to because we don't have the $$$.

Just do like Dallas...just keep spending until you get bailout money.

Speaking of which...I think I better get working on another article.

I think Windy City is really the Poster Child for selling high. And, as successful as some of the guys you've sold still are, your team may be just as good or better than it ever was.

Some deals have worked better than others for sure. But I haven't traded scrubs. I've traded good players mostly. Hell even Tilbrook, he was just blocking people but he was very good, look what he's done in Maine.

But it made out team better overall even if it looked like on the surface Maine got the better end of the deal.

Back in the day the Hoover deal was the same way.

Yeah we love Tilbrook. He was the exact kind of bat we needed to replace Bill Fallon.

In the early years I let more players go to FA (Sanchez, Hiraki, Fallon) but in the last few years I've made more of an effort to trade them (Dealba, Bermeo, O'Fallon). Been very happy with the returns so far.

"Very happy" with the O'Fallon-Seirra deal? Doesn't seem like the deal has really worked out for either of us...

We needed .OBP and closer that year. We had NOBODY to close after Simmonds left. Alvarez was a stud in the 1986 playoffs with 6 saves in 7 appearances and a .90 ERA. Without him or Longstreet to shore up the middle infield I don't believe we win that year. Even Longstreet hit .361 that year in the post season.

Tilbrook....hated trading him. But we had Kirby and Burgett splitting time with him and more prospects on the way in the pipeline. Same reason Windley had to go a few years earlier.

We try to sign everyone we can now and have had success keeping Theodore and now we just assured Carrillo is in the fold for a LONG time. But for every Theodore we can afford to keep, a Kirby has to go.

Yeah that one has been kind of "meh". Mainly happy with the Dealba trade.

That makes two of us. It was nice to be part of a win-win deal after making the decision to give up studs like Gugs and Grandon in exchange for fiscal flexibility.
