    Washington Bats (22-16)
1-2 vs. WC, 2-1 vs. Batavia - Exactly what I predicted. Both matchups against great pitching clubs and my hitters struggled.

    The Good
-Closer Grant Lewis just saved his 11th game of the season. He is now 11/11, .92 ERA, .92 WHIP, 19:6 K:BB. The old man is still dominant with no signs of slowing down.
-SP Martin Carlton had his third start of the season and pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only four base runners.

    The Bad
-The team hit .200 for the week. Enough said.

    Prospect Report
-Top SP prospect Lucien Lavoe pitched another gem. Now in six Triple-A starts, he is 4-1, 1.47 ERA, .95 WHIP and 29 Ks in 43 IP. He still has room to develop but might be a summer call-up if he continues to pitch like this.

5-1 sim, swept Pittsburgh and took 2/3 from Syracuse.

Lamberts and Lesley Lacy had nice debuts for the club- Lacy really just needs to hold the fort for another month or so. He's a veteran and should be able to do that.

Samarano, Latham, and Kirby are heating up. Once Dodson gets going, this offense is hopefully going to really start to take off.

You also predicted you would have the best week in the Stout. Not completely inaccurate as all four teams went 3-3.

This is why I brought this up. Wood was a nobody, but this is the second sim in a row with a CEI.

              Baltimore Bulldogs (19-19)

              1-2 @ Virginia
              1-2 @ Wilmington

I'm not sure what's wrong with my bats but almost everyone decided not to hit last week. Our pitching was actually decent this sim, which I hope we can put the two together. Also Ivan Garcia, our "leadof hitter" is hitting .185 but with a .323 OBP because he draws so many walks. However, rookie Zi-Cheng Jin is doing well in limited action and my find himself at the top of the lineup as an everyday starter if Garcia doesn't start swinging at something.

                Interesting timeline for him:

                05/05 - Wood has a 5 for 6 game
05/09 - He is named the ILAA player of the week
                05/14 - He suffers a CEI

Very happy to sign Molenza to a 5-year extension. Perfect timing since he entered the top players list this week.

I really only got 4 additional years after his last arb year next year but I had been trying for a while to lock him up for 7-8 years. Since he wasn't going for it I decided to try for a shorter term deal, which I'll take. I think he gave us a nice hometown, pre-arb discount, and am happy to know he'll be with the Snappers for quite a while longer. I hope the fans are happy too and we get a fan interest bump.

I have 1-2 more guys I'd like to get extended too...hopefully I can get those deals done too.

Weird note: SP Ben Irvin, a career .190 hitter, has 6 hits in his last 7 ABs including only the 3rd double of his career. That .190 career avg is up from .167 prior to that stretch.

                              Philadelphia Freedom (24 - 14, 1st)

Well, we like the way this has been headed over the last couple of weeks. 10 games over .500. We’re hoping that doesn’t become a hard ceiling and that we’re able to push on through it soon.

                              2-1 @ Carolina

Gm 1: We came into this game on a 4 game winning streak, but Joe Arredondo scuffled early and often. He managed to gut out 5 IP, but surrendered 4 ER on 7 hits and 3 BB. We’ve been a bit fortunate recently that our bullpen has decided to have their bad days in conjuction with a mediocre SP effort so the damage has been somewhat minimized. The bullpen gave up 5 more the rest of the way. Tobs SP Shawn Gates held the Freedom bats in check over his 7 innings of work. OT and Geoff Scott each had two hits but none of those hits led to any scoring. Jim Newlin hit a bases loaded double in the 9th to plate 3 runs to make the final score a little more respectable.
                              PHI 5 CAR 9

Gm 2: Ben Irvin was shaky early after the offense staked him to an immediate 3 run lead. He allowed two retaliatory runs in the home half of the 1st and then cruised the remainder of his time on the mound. He plowed through the next 7 innings without allowing any more damage and by the end of the day he picked up his 2nd victory of the season, evening his record at 2-2. OT went slap hit crazy from the leadoff spot, hitting 4 singles in 5 trips resulting in 2 runs scored. Jim Newlin must be developing a knack for 9th inning bases clearing doubles because he repeated his game 1 effort in game 2, this time it was a bit more than cosmetic, putting the game away.
                              PHI 7 CAR 2

Gm 3: The journey from minor league afterthought to solid rotation member continues for Ray Minnoz. He provided 7 strong innings while allowing only 2 ER on 4 hits. He was supported by stout offense and some good defense (no errors and 3 DPs turned). Greg Josey ate his Wheaties and provided 3 RBI and 2 R during a 4 for 4 day (3 singles and a HR). This game was blown open in the top of the 8th when both Joe Seagarra and Dave Ibison hit separate 2 R doubles at the expense of RPs Leland Rupp and Doug Carlisle.
                              PHI 7 CAR 3

                              3-0 vs Los Alamos

Gm 1: Good pitching matchup in the first game of this series: David Tardiff vs. Joe Aurillo. Both pitchers staked their case for a decision with Tardiff turning in a game score of 65 and Aurillo responding with a game score of 70. Neither one was able to stick around long enough to ultimately pick up the victory as this one was decided by the bullpens. Trevor Broomfield picked up the W with a 1.2 IP effort in which he yielded 0 H 0 ER and punched out 3. Wayne van Slyke was unable to answer and game 1 went to the good guys. Greg Josey collected 3 more hits on the day and drove in a run. Young Victor Alveraz pitched in the other RBI on a 2 for 4 effort.
                              LAM 1 PHI 2

Gm 2: Another well pitched game broke out in game 2 between Jason Justice and Tim Nathan. We came into this week hoping that Nathan would get back into form and he didn’t disappoint (7.1 IP | 5 H | 1 ER | 3 BB | 7 K). The offense was blanked by Justice for the first 6 innings before striking for a 3 run bottom of the 7th. Utility man Sammy Gaines drove in 2 runs on a triple in that inning and 4th OFer Dave Ibison immediately drove him in for the 3rd run with a single. Cristian Correa and Joe Alveraz worked the last 2 innings to seal the deal.
                              LAM 1 PHI 3

Gm 3: This series went exactly as we would draw it up. 3 games, 3 really good efforts out of the starters and ultimately 3 victories where the opponent was held in check in each game. Joe Arredondo rebounded from his wobbly start at the beginning of the week to shut down the Bandits, falling 1 out short of a CG. In total he allowed 1 ER on 4 hits during his 8.2 IP while striking out a solid 6 batters. The offense jumped on SP Mike Hinchy and RP Orrin Brudenell early and often, scoring 8 runs in the first 5 innings. Geoff Scott was 3 for 5 | 2 R | 2 RBI, Jim Newlin, Jose Urra and Dave Ibison each had 2 hit games as well. The only starter without at least 1 hit was Joe Seagarra who did at least chip in with two walks.
                              LAM 1 PHI 10

                              Good:

                              - Los Alamos does not sport a terribly weak lineup and we managed to hold them to 3 1-run efforts
                              - Geoff Scott continues to terrorize the baseball in a civilized manner (no homeruns) (.350 | .536 | .550 | 7 R | 8 BB). He’s really growing up into a great hitter. He drew a total of 37 walks last year in 533 PAs and this year he already has 27 in only 169
                              - OT came off of a hitless week last sim and batted .500 this sim. As long as he can stay out of a prolonged slump we will be thrilled with what he brings to the table.
-Greg Josey raised his season BA to .299. He’s still not slugging as much as we would like to see, but after last season’s BA of .225 and OPS of .650 we’re happy to see some positive results. We’re hopeful he’ll go on a real tear soon and lift his OPS into the mid .800s

                              Not as Good:

                              - 3B Juan Coera went down with a month+ long arm injury. When he was out at the beginning of the year we had back to back 2-4 weeks. We will miss his veteran presence in the lineup
