3-4 sim but we are still only 2 games back.

I am digging Tardif's consistency so far (cue the jinx) but my offense is unbelievably unreliable. This team should be scoring runs not getting shut out.

In 10 of our 26 games we have been limited to 2 runs or less. We are 1-9 in those games.

      California Kodiaks (15-11)

      This Week: 3-4

      0-2 vs Baltimore
      0-2 @ Batavia
      3-0 vs Virginia

Game 1: <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on">Baltimore 5</st1:State> - California 4 -- In a battle of Porter Division foes the Bulldogs were able to come out on top with a decent pitching performance from Jerry Orozco who went 6 IP and gave 4 runs. Kodiaks starter Robby Sears was finally not victimized by the long ball but was battered by the Baltimore offense to the tune of 11 hits in just 4 1/3 IP. The Kodiaks had their chances but were never able to push across the tying run.

Game 2: Baltimore 7 - California 1 -- When Conan Wilkerson takes the mound, California expects good things to happen; today would not be one of those days. Wilkerson, who pitched 5 2/3 and struck out 10 gave up 5 unearned runs after falling apart after two Kodiaks errors. On offense, Joe Soto shut down the Kodiaks taking a no hitter into the 6th inning before catcher Malek Garane broke it up with a single. Eventually the Kodiaks would scratch across a run, but by then the margin was too large.

Game 3: <st1:State w:st="on">Batavia 6</st1:State> - California 3 -- Joe Toapanta looked to rebound in this start after a couple of less than expected results. Unfortunately for the Kodiaks, Toapanta did not show up and once again the Kodiaks were put in a hole that their offense could not dig out of. In positive news, rookie of the month Jarred Good continued his hot hitting by going 2-4.

Game 4: <st1:City w:st="on">Batavia 4</st1:City> - California 2 -- Starter Oswaldo Escarcaga went 7 strong innings but it was not enough for the weak Kodiaks offense to overcome the efforts of Batavia starter Nakazo Sasaki. After both clubs traded two runs a piece in the first inning the game remained tied till the eight inning when reliever Joe Negron came on and proceeded to give up two runs on four hits in just 2/3 of an inning. From there, Batavia reliever Adam Goings came on and shut the door on the Kodiaks to pick up his third win of the season.

Game 5: <st1:State w:st="on">California 6</st1:State> - Virginia 5 -- Finally the Kodiaks picked up their first win of the week as they returned home to take out the visiting Colonials 6-5. Spurred b Jarred Good who went 3-4 with 2 RBI's the Kodiaks offense was able to pick up the slack of a bad pitching outing from starter Joe Lopez and the bullpen was able to hold serve the rest of the game to pick up the win. Closer Roman Magueu came on in the eight inning to pick up his 10th save of the season.

Game 6: California 3- Virginia 1 -- Robby Sears took the mound and picked up his third win of the season with a solid 7 2/3 IP scattering five hits and giving up just one run while striking out seven. On offense the Kodiaks were able to scratch out three runs agains Colonials starter Jerry Collins. Lucio Mendez paced the offense with two doubles on the night.

Game 7: California 2- Virginia 1 (10 innings) -- Now this is more California baseball. In a low scoring affair, Conan Wilkerson went 7 2/3 strong innings striking out 11 Colonial batters paving the way for a Kodiaks sweep of Virginia. Although Wilkerson did not stick around long enough to get the win, he provided enough support that the offense was finally able to get it into gear and get the all important winning run in the bottom of the 10th with a walk off single by CF Willie Hopkins.

      Bottomline<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
      - Jarred Good was named the IL Rookie of the Month for April. For the month Good hit .323/.356/.434/.790 for the month. He collected 8 2B's as well as 1 HR and 12 RBI's.

      - Offense continues to struggle. Like many IL teams, my offense continues to be the weak point of my roster. I'm hoping with luck and maybe a move or two I can get the thing kick started.

      - I'm loving what Britt Bovey is bringing with his bat, but the guy just can't stay healthy. Since I signed him in January the guy has already missed 8 weeks of gametime. I'm not pleased about that at all.

        Baltimore Bulldogs 14-12, 1.0 GB

If we can get some consistency from our bullpen, we may have a chance to contend for the Division title. As it stands now, however, we will not be able to keep up with Cali or Philly with our bullpen. A big decision to maybe call up minor league stars, Chad Stafford and/or Juan Jose Garcia may be in order.

        Good

Both Curt Boyd and Pat Washington have started to hit as they should. Was blistering at a .452 clip and Washington not too far behind at .385. Harcourt is continuing his phenomenal return to prominence winning his first POTW Award since 1985. Joe Soto is having another amazing year and I'm hoping he can continue his great run so far.

        Bad

We allowed only 4 earned runs in 2 games vs. Cali but then 24 in the next four against Phlly and Windy City. These inconsistencies cannot happen if we plan on contending for our division this year.

I am seriously afraid to face you guys. Just waiting to hear that one of my guys is gone for the season with a fractured scull or something.
