    Batimore Bulldogs (6-6, 3.0 GB)

    Week in Review

    2-1 vs. Wilmington
    0-3 vs. Washington

    The Good:

As terribly as we played we did walk away with two wins. I should be thankful, because that was some of the most godawful play I've seen in years. Harcourt is back and he's the only reason we are doing even partially decent so far. If he keeps up anything even remotely as nice as this, I'd like to vote that we have comeback player of the year award so he can win it.

    The Bad:

Our bullpen is TERRIBLE. No I really mean TERRIBLE. To top it off, I look to find my only lefty middle reliever and he's a gotdamn Whaler now. This season is not looking great.

    The Ugly:

We lost 24-0 to Wilmington. We couldn't hit, we couldn't pitch. I didn't even watch the other 5 games because that one hurt so badly to watch. "What's the worst loss in BLB history?"

I fully expect that to be one of the "Stats of the Day."

Baltimore Bulldogs - BLB since '84
    - Porter Champs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12
    - Playoffs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '99, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12, '13, '14, '15, '16
    - Brewmaster's Cup: '01

Harcourt just keeps on keeping on. I don't think he gets old; just hurt.

The bad news: we went 2-4 again. The good news: we only fell one game further back in the standings. The other good news: it's early, there's time for things to settle down. We hope.
In hopeful news, Joe Seagarra is historically a slow starter. The year he drove in 106, he had a monstrous September driving in about 25 RBI just to reach the mark. I believe he also hit about 12 of his 23 home runs in August and September combined.

I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but I remember always feeling like he'll miss a few marks and then seeing him get there with ease.

          Denver Bulls (7-5)

          Week In Review...

          2-1 @ Pawtucket
          2-1 vs. Pittsburgh

          The Good
The Kip Higgins-to-Kifle Al-Sadat era did the job last week. Higgins batted .545/.643/.909 with 1 home run and 4 RBI in 4 games after being suspended for two games; Al-Sadat hit .333/.333/.583 with 1 home run and 4 RBI. Defensively, 1987 Glove Wizard Al-Sadat has no errors in 54 chances.

          The Bad
Despite a career ERA above 5, Jennings was awarded a $5 MM raise in arbitration. Jennings proceeded to give up 4 runs in 3.2 IP raising his season ERA to 7.72. Considering his history, Jennings will be hard pressed to return to the major league roster despite his salary.

          The Ugly
Adrian Romero failed to record an out last week and saw his ERA rise above 54. He is heading straight to AAA in hopes that he can rebuild his confidence.

          What To Expect
Top Prospect SP Julian Murillo has been promoted to the big league club and will be making his debut from the bullpen.

            California Kodiaks (9-3)

            This Week: 3-3

            2-1 @ Windy City
            1-2 vs Los Alamos

Game 1: <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on">California</st1:State> 1 - Windy City 0-- Joe Toapanta continued his strong start to the year going eight shutout innings and upping his scoreless streak to start the year at 17 innings. Francois Dupuis offered the only offense either team would see with a solo shot in the eight inning off of Playboy starter and tough luck loser Raul Carrillo. Roman Magueu came on in the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season. With the win, Toapanta moves to 2-0 on the year.

Game 2: Windy City 1 - California 0 (13 innings) -- After seeing a classic pitching matchup in game one, fans were treated to another dandy as Oswaldo Escarcaga and Jim Fletcher both pitched eight shut out innings for their respective squads. While the Kodiaks collected one more hit than the Playboys (6 to 5) they were never able to scratch across a run. The end came in the 13th inning when Angelo Opio opened the inning with a single; was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a two out single from Ross Broadbridge. Bing-de She picked up the loss which also happened to be the Kodiaks first loss of the season and ends the winning streak at seven.

Game 3: <st1:State w:st="on">California 3</st1:State> - Windy City 1 -- Joe Lopez picked up his second win of the year as he went seven strong giving up just one run in the process. On offense Jose Compres was the hero with a two run bomb off Playboys starter Shawn Mills in the third inning. Magueu was called on in the ninth and shut the door for his league leading sixth save of the season.

Game 4: <st1:City w:st="on">Los Alamos 5</st1:City> - California 3 -- Robby Sears gave up two more home runs in this one but didn't have the luxury of striking out eleven batters to match his gopher ball prowess. Although Sears took the loss, he picked up his second straight quality start. Jarred Good was the star on offense going 4-5.

Game 5: <st1:State w:st="on">California 5</st1:State> - Los Alamos 0 -- Conan 'Checkmate' Wilkerson was his usual dominant self going seven innings, giving up zero runs and striking out 10 batters. On offense, Owen Gilbertson, the Kodiaks LF had a big day going 3-4 with a solo home run and a two run double off of starter David Tardiff. With the win, the Kodiaks moved to 9-2 on the season.

Game 6: Los Alamos 8 - California 6 -- Coming into this game Joey Toapanta was riding a 17 inning scoreless streak. Leaving this game, he was yanked in the first inning after giving up five earned runs on two long homers while only recording two outs. The Kodiaks bullpen fought hard but were unable to keep Los Alamos scoreless for the rest of the game giving up three runs over the next 8.1 innings. The Kodiaks made a spirited comeback in the bottom of the ninth scoring five runs but they were never able to get the tying run across home plate. Jarred Good continued his solid hitting going 3-5 with a double and two RBI's.

            Bottomline<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
It's always a good week when you can gain some distance from your division mates... but a 3-3 week is a bit disappointing when I think about the fact that I had Joe Toapanta going in game six to give us a shot to move to 4-2. My offense also really sucks. Britt Bovey comes back from injury this week and I really hope he can provide some power in the absence of Robby Shannon. (We miss you big guy. )

Sorry, Baltimore, but it's looking like Washington picked up the right former Denver pitcher.

And I'm not mad at you Whale...good pickup. I just think basing pickups off 1 week of games is bull. From now on Batavia goes 1 man starter mode Week 1 just to get the first shot.

Sorry, but we're pretty awful this year so far and need all the help we can get. You can trade me for him if you'd like :)
