Wow. Some really "solid" pitching performances, specifically against Hyundai. If we pitch like that all year... which I could see... it's going to be a long year.
Shunsen Miyamoto, who was pitching great and probably is our best starter, goes down for 2-3 weeks with elbow inflammation... someone go tell Bill Gillespie to keep it in his pants. I'm not giving him a start.

I had no clue guys could have setbacks from injuries. Much more realistic imo.

We start the season off with a 4-2 record. Compared to the rest of the IL, we are 4th in batting average, 2nd in runs scored, 3rd in home runs, and 3rd in starter ERA. Harcourt looks to be back hitting .391 with 6 RBI in the first week of play. Another surprising performance came from rookie outfielder, Joe Saxton who hit a respectable .312 for the week behind Harcourt and Caballero. Also, for the most part, we had dominant outings from every starting pitcher.
The Bad: Pat Washington/Bill Faircloth
Pat Washington didn't start all too well going just 4/23 last week. Also, Bill Faircloth was throwing a great game against the Virginia Colons last week. He threw a no hitter through six and then proceded to give up 3 runs in the 7th and 2 in the 8th. We didn't take him out early enough for me which is a bit concerning.
The Ugly: 9.35.
9.35 is the ERA from our bullpen last week. I thought the two kids, Reyes and Pena were ready for the bigs but I may have been wrong. In both of the games we lost, we were ahead 5-2 before giving up 5 runs against Morgantown in the 8th and 9th innings, and 7 runs to Virginia in the 9th inning alone. This cannot happen. If I see that these guys cannot handle the pressure, we will get people who can.
All in all, still impressed with our offense and starters.
Just noticed all my strategy settings are set to the middle for every situation. Not sure if they changed in the conversion to OOTP X or if it's because my manager retired.
Good to have the first sim out of the way and get this season underway. No injuries to speak of, so that's always a positive. Pitching was really good, the offense was not. Hopefully it will come around soon.
1-2 @ Davenport
Gm 1: Joe Aurillo got the starting nod on Opening Day and pitched a decent game (an 8 inning CG in fact), allowing 8 hits and 3 runs while striking out 3. The offense managed 6 hits but could only manufacture a lone 8th inning run. Brawler free agent acquisition Alonzo Gugierrez was really good, going 7.0 innings, allowing 5 hits, no runs and striking out 8 Freedom hitters (although to be fair, 3 of those K's were at Joe Aurillo's expense).
PHI 1 DAV 3
Gm 2: Veteran LHer Tim Nathan did what he does. He grinded out 7.1 innings, allowing 1 ER on 7 hits to pick up his first victory of the season. RF Greg Josey blasted a 2 run HR in the first off of Jerry Sizemore and chipped in with another RBI in the 3rd with a double. CL Joe Alveraz worked the 9th for his first save of the year.
PHI 4 DAV 1
Gm 3: This was Joe Arredondo's first appearance for the Freedom and we was good enough to win (8.0 IP | 3 ER | 1 BB | 3K), but the offense failed to give him any run support. The Freedom O managed 4 hits, all singles, against former Freedom pitcher Yeong-suk Kang. Kang pitched around the Freedom bats all night and we weren't patient enought to take advantage (drew 4 walks and struckout 5 times).
PHI 1 DAV 3
1-2 vs Carolina
Gm 1: Ben Irvin was solid in his first trip to the mound (7.2 IP | 3 Hits | 1 ER | 7 K), but in a reccuring theme, the offense didn't get the job done despite out hitting the Tobs 9 to 4.
CAR 2 PHI 1
Gm 2: Ray Minnoz was wildly effective (8.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 6 BB | 3 K), but Tobs starter Ezequiel Parongoa was dominant (8.0 IP | 3 H | 0 ER | 10 K) in shutting down the vaunted Freedom offense. We tried to get a 2-out 9th inning rally started when Newlin and Seagarra singled back-to-back off Matt Rogers, but no actual damage was inflicted.
CAR 2 PHI 0
Gm 3: Joe Aurillo took his second turn on the hill, trying to avoid the sweep. He pitched strong (7.2 IP | 5 H | 2 ER | 7 K), but didn't stick around quite long enough for the decision. An offensive explosion in the 8th inning (3 runs) allowed us to avoid the sweep and make a winner out of Trevor Broomfield who picked up the W by throwing 2 pitches. Joe Alveraz worked a perfect 9th for his second save in two chances.
Good: Pitching. Team ERA of 2.21 through the first SIM, of course it is such a small sample size you can't really read anything into that, but it is a good start.
Not as Good: Offense. A team line of .224 | .275 | .296 is obviously not going to get things done. In our 4 defeats we scored 1, 1, 1 and 0 runs respectively. Again, small sample size, but it wasn't a good first week with the bats.
