  • That's my biggest problem. How many pitches a guy throws shouldn't be an issue, it's how effective those pitches are. So is Cochran a reliever with two pitches or a starter with 7? Not to beat a dead horse, but without multiple scouts and with quite a few of the feeder league guys with no OSA report, it feels like another "broken" part of the scouting system.

I'm basically approaching this draft the same as I would any other. After a few seasons of feeder leagues I'll look at the stats more closely.
I don't even take minor league stats seriously.

      • I've been looking at stats right after ratings, but I'm probably wrong to do that. There's no telling if the talent level in the Cape vs College vs HS is really that different right now. As Andrew said one guy may be more developed with less potential. And of course it's only two sims worth.

In that case, I only trust my scout. He's an 80 overall for amateur scouting so I assume he knows what he's talking about.

On the other hand... who knows how often pitcher develops new pitches. We haven't spent enough time with the game to see if stud prospects that look originially like relievers can turn into stud starters with the addition of that third pitch.

This would be pretty easy to test in single player. Draft a bunch of guys with 2 pitches who are listed as starters, lock them into the SP role and sim 5 years or so and see if they've developed more pitches.

              • I'm very happy to land Scoley at #11. My scout had him as the 2nd best SP in the draft. Came down to him and Moran (Windy City's pick, who I now hate). Ratings are well developed and though the sample size is small he's been dominant thus far in his games.

                • The only guy my scout has hated so far in Moran. I must of copied down his ratings wrong as everyone else seems to love him.

Loved Scoley too. I didn't want a SP but if he was there and you took Moran I would've had to.

                    • Hey guys, I'll get my pick in before the end of the night for sure. I just got into my hotel and need to look through my draft list real quick. I'll probably reach a little bit, but we'll see.

At least this discussion gave you a chance to relive your glory days.
                        It's by design.

There are pitchers that don't throw a true four-seam fastball so Markus coded the new pitching system to give a smaller percentage of guys only a cutter/sinker/two-seamer instead of the typical fastball.

I think the argument regarding the "1" rating for a fastball was: no pitcher would keep a pitch in his arsenal that simply did not work at all.

                            • The Virginia Colonials are proud to welcome Morton West Mustang's Centerfielder Jerry Daly to the family. Daly was by far the #1 position player on our board and our Scouts love him. Jerry is the prototypical Colonial prospect with a great combination of blinding speed, power to the gaps and strong defense.

(Oh yeah... and we also love drafting guys named 'Jerry')
