He was #1 on our draft board. I was really surprised he made it that far.

    • I liked him too. Not sure I would've taken him with my pick (have my eye on a couple other guys) but he looks like a good player.

        • Couldn't everyone have slowed down? Now I'm at work, with 4 hours to pick & am gameless here. I went through my guys last night but would've liked to look at them once more. Oh well...hopefully I had them mostly in order.

            • I'm noticing some of the pitchers don't show a fastball as one of their pitches. That's odd.

              • I thought the same thing last night. I wonder if that's an indicator that they'll develop that as a third pitch.

Seems more like a bug to me. What pitcher has to develop a FB?

They will always have a fastball type pitch though.

                    For example...

                    Sinkers
                    Cutters

Unless the pitcher is a knuckleballer... which I think I counted two in our entire universe, they will have some sort of fastball type pitch.

It looks like you are right about the Sinker ballers. There are 13 pitchers in the draft class that don't have a potential FB. Of those, 7 are sinkerball pitchers. But, for the Cutters guys it's not mutually exclusive. There are pitchers that have both FB and cutters and then there are 6 that only have cutters.

It just seems odd that any pitcher would get created without a fastball.

                      • Well... I think of it this way.

In high school when I pitched, I started out with just a flat four seam fastball a change up and a horrible hanging curve.

I quickly realized that my results would not improve unless I changed things up.

I switched over to a two seamer (sinker)* kept the change up and switched to a harder biting slider.

I no longer threw what OOTP would consider a 'fastball'. I threw a sinker.

                        * Yes I know a two seamer and a sinker are not 100% alike.... but you get the point.

Your point is understood, but in the world of OOTP wouldn't you still have had a FB with a potential rating of 1? Obviousbly it was not a good pitch, but every pitcher knows how to throw one.

At least this discussion gave you a chance to relive your glory days.

You took the one guy that was on my list. Our guys must exchange notes.

I'm remaining optimistic since I've had this scout for a few years and I'm still the #3 Farm System... so he must know something.

Guess you and I will clean up then.

My scout of the #1 Farm system thinks your scout is stupid.

I've actually liked most of the picks, some of them were strange. But the guy I got, my scout has right at the top so I was truly stunned he was there.
