What else needs to be said about a guy that comes within percentage points of becoming the BLB's 1st Triple Crown winner? Robby Shannon was a beast this season and the driving force behind an improbable season by the once ridiculed California Kodiaks. A 1st Round pick by Davenport in 1982, Shannon was moved to Indianapolis and eventually to California as he played his way through the minors. The cornfed Hawkeye who played two seasons for the University of Iowa before entering the Brawler's farm system has quickly blossomed into one of the most feared bats in the BLB.

Speaking of feared Bats, Miquel Angel Padilla (or M.A.P. as he is known) is only 22 and may still be learning how to play at this level. Hard to tell by his '87 season as he helped lead Washington to the best record in the BLB and yet another Stout Division title. With Joe Sierra moving over to Maine, the kid from Dothan, Alabama is already emerging as a veteren leader in the clubhouse.

Rounding out the top 3 is the guy who many still consider the face of the BLB. Mel Woodbury just went out there and did what he does... create runs. 'Doorbell' lead his Freedom team to the playoffs in '87 before going down late in the season to a torn rib cage.

I think I did actually after Shannon and MAP. If the records reveal that I actually didn't vote for him, I want you to know that I strongly considered it. I didn't want to vote for a guy who was MIA for the crucial last month or so of the season.

Full disclosure: I was not the owner to give Woodbury a first place vote. In fact I left him off my ballot completely.

Didn't you hold MAP out the last sim? I was leaning towrds voting for him before that, but when Shannon only missed the triple crown by a fraction of a BA point, I had to go with him.

                Re: Editor's note.

It was me. I voted O'Hegarty 3rd. That's right. I recently commented on his all-around game and I think he's exactly the type of player that gets overlooked because he won't lead the league in homeruns or RBI. He does a lot of other things right. He picks up BB/2B/3B/Runs/SB at a great rate. Very productive for a leadoff hitter.

Shannon was first for me. Woodbury 2nd.

Padilla would have been fourth on my ballot.

He played in five of seven.

MAP had a great season. Better VORP and OPS then Shannon. He also had 45 doubles and 7 triples while Shannon had 27 and 3.

                  But the right guy won.

Well, I feel the same way about him and likely would have put O'Hegarty 4th or 5th on my ballot.

In an ironic twist and purely coincidental.... I gave Dane Browning the one and only vote he received for the DL stout Slugger.

I think when their careers are over, MAP could very easily have a couple on his shelf.

Not that I think this season is a fluke, but I'm not sure if MAP is going to hit at this level his whole career. He will always mash, but I'm not sure he is a .300 guy.

Amazes me how this guy became the butt of all jokes. I think it's more the GM people are after but look at those numbers.

                              185 HR's, 855 RBI's, .323/.431/.515 average. I wish my players had a case of Gremades.
