  • OOTP X Conversion

Now that we are approaching the end of 1987 it makes sense to discuss converting to OOTP X. The last patch is due in the next couple weeks and by all accounts X seems to be one of the most stable versions of OOTP yet.

To me the improved injury model in OOTP X is worth the upgrade on it's own. Other key improvements are:

    - Minor league DL
    - Arbitration and FA compensation
    - report creation speed

    Key concerns:
    - Conversion of pitchers

I'd like to take an informal poll on who a) wants to convert b) doesn't really want to but would if the league decided to c) will drop the league if we DON'T convert d) will drop the league if we DO convert.

Didn't you do some testing on this and had pretty positive results and a potential workaround?

isn't that like being the fastest fat kid in gym class?

i'll likely stick around no matter the decision. but i probably wouldn't vote for a change during this off-season.

I did a quick informal test with the BLB and it looked like most top pitchers are still top pitchers. That being said, OOTP X has slightly different player evaluation formulas than 9 so there will be some differences in how your scout views a player.

The major conversion issue with X is that it nerfs the stuff rating for relievers who have an endurance rating of exactly 50. This only applies to a handful of BLB players though and is easily fixed by editing their endurance to 51 before converting.

If people are still concerned about pitchers converting to the new system I'd be willing to adopt a "challenge" system which would allow teams to challenge the converted ratings of a few pitchers in their organization. However, this would require me looking at the real ratings before and after conversion so isn't something I really want to do.

Maybe we just take the ratings as they come and if everyone's pitchers get shitty we just call it the deadball era.

Is it too late to change my vote to "d"? If we do convert let's live with what the game does.

I think the conversion has been improved to a point where we shouldn't see too many major differences. The changes we do see are more due to differences in how OOTP X evaluates players vs OOTP 9.

For the sake of information, could we do a test convert and post the Top Players List and BA Top Prospects list to compare to what we have currently. Doesn't give much detail, but at least does a 1000 foot snapshot of the league.

We've converted in the PCBL and from what I can tell the new pitching model has had a marginal affect. It is represented across the board, so we are where we were prior to the conversion. Aside from that we seem to be enjoying the new features immensely.

I will say that I think if we convert we accept the results. I don't like the challenge aspect and frankly wouldn't challenge (probably) myself.

Yes, definitely. Forgot to mention that depending on when the patch releases this would probably mean a short break for the BLB. A week or two at most.

My opinion would be that we put the one known work around in place:

The major conversion issue with X is that it nerfs the stuff rating for relievers who have an endurance rating of exactly 50. This only applies to a handful of BLB players though and is easily fixed by editing their endurance to 51 before converting.
...and everything else it's just a matter of "it is what it is." No one has an advantage in the conversion, so it's probably best (if the league decides the the conversion is the way to go) to just let the results be what they are.

We did that workaround. There were only 3 pitchers with 50 endurance anyway.
