  • Improving the Offseason - Winter League Idea

Now that we can add leagues, I can share my idea to improve the offseason. Basically, here's how it would work:

    - The league would be setup as a 4th minor league.
    - The rosters would be empty most of the year, except when the league is running.
    - The league would run a 40 game schedule or so, after the FA rush.
    - Sims would cover 2 weeks at a time.
    - Since it's a minor league, you'd want to only assign players who aren't on your 40 man roster to avoid using options. This would make the teams basically a minor league all-star team for each organization.
    - There would be special awards for this league

    Concerns:
    - It would lengthen the offseason by a few sims
    - Not sure how this will affect development

Let me know what you guys think.

Hopefully, it would speed up development (with the risk of injury).

    I'm all for it!

I think, like you said it will slow the offseason down even more. And I think the logic for progression is already built in, isn't it? To me I think it would just be meaningless games.

I think players will progress as long as they are playing, so it should help their development some. If not, we might be able to work in some small bonuses for players who participate.

I just think something needs to change with the offseason. It sucks right now. It's impossible for me to get through it quickly enough with the way waivers and DFA work. I guess I'd just rather have something to pay attention to, even if it does make it a few sims longer.

I don't see anything wrong with giving us something to do during the extremely boring offseason.

We never really came to a consensus over this. 2007 gives us a couple options.

We can do an extra minor league that acts as a regular minor league but runs in the offseason, or we can do a feeder league. However, with the feeder league I think I'd need to create 20 new GM's and you'd have to login as another GM to make changes.

The nice thing about a feeder league is that players would eventually get drafted into the BLB. It also wouldn't affect development or option years, service time, etc.

We also discussed adding a "rookie" level to the minor leagues that runs after the draft. I'm hesitant to add too many new leagues though because it will increase the file sizes so it's probably one or the other.

                              Thoughts?
