Robby Shannon was .0005 away from being the first ever BLB Triple Crown Winner. We also came in first place... so I think he deserves to win the IL Stout Slugger.

I also want to pimp Conan Wilkerson for both Refreshing New Brew and IL Pale Ale Pitcher awards.

In his first season Wilkerson put up these numbers.

1.94 ERA (1st in all of the BLB)
67.6 VORP (1st in all of the BLB)
16 wins (Tied for third most in the IL)
    203 K's (3rd most in the IL)
0.99 WHIP (4th overall in the IL)

Obviously I'm biased but I think he deserves both awards.

Brode had a 1.75 ERA in 144 IP before getting knocked out for the season. :)

Sorry, after not making the playoffs, I have to take any small good things that came out of this season that I can.

Yeah, Brode would have easily won it if he didn't get injured. I guess he didn't qualify for the league lead then.

Brode is obviously awesome, but I wouldn't say he would have "easily" won the Pale Ale. There's a guy in Los Lunas who put up good numbers and finished 1st or 2nd in ERA, Wins, VORP, Hits/9 IP, BB/9 IP, Ks, Ks/9 IP, Ks/BB, OAVG, WHIP, and BR/9 IP. He came within 2 Ks of the pitching triple crown. (Of course, a full season from Brode might have given him that distinction.)

By the way, I think the most impressive stat for D.G. is the 21 wins. He pitches for a team that can't hit their way out of a wet paper bag.

I sent my ballot in earlier today, let me know if you didn't get it.

I don't think there's anyone on my team that deserves to win an award this season. Hector Castre deserves some consideration for New Brew, but Wilkerson had a clearly better season. Hamlet and Opio both had nice years at the plate but I'm not sure they deserve to be in the top 3. Same thing for my pitchers. Parongao, Gates and Delclos all had solid years but aren't serious contenders for Pale Ale.

I'll pimp a few people this year:

3B Curt Dodson for DL New Brew
.308/.350/.778 with a 48.2 VORP- was a middle of the lineup hitter on a playoff squad. The former #1 overall pick really seems to be developing nicely- Clay said he'd be the New Brew winner and I hope he's right.

                  SP Gervasio Areas
Areas is one of the young bright arms in the game- he went 16-10 with a 3.79 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. #4 in wins in the DL, #4 in WHIP, #3 in opponents AVG. He's been far, far more than I wished for.

                  SP Manny Puerias
Puerias was the other guy at the front of my rotation- he also went 16-10 with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He's tied for #4 in wins, top 10 in WHIP, and only gave up 8 HR in 233 IP. He also threw 3 shutouts this year.

If Latham hadn't been hurt, I think he would have been in contention for the DL Stout Slugger as well.

                    Sent.

                    As for my pimps...

SP Nathan Athey: 13-10, 2.53 ERA, 0.95 WHIP
                    1st in H/9
                    1st in Opponents AVG
                    1st in WHIP
                    2nd in R/9
                    3rd in ERA
                    3rd in VORP
                    7th in K's

The guy could have been 18-5 for a decent hitting team.

MR Ken Bayer: 4-4, 1.04 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 35 saves
                    1st in ERA
                    1st in Opponents Avg
                    1st in HR/9
                    1st in H/9
                    2nd in WHIP
                    2nd in VORP
                    2nd in BR/9
7th in Saves (he didn't start the year at closer)

                      Mini-Pimp for VIRGINIA:

                      IL STOUT SLUGGER: None

                      IL PALE ALE: Nate Magness

IL LAST CALL: Vernon Simmonds & Jayson McQueen*

                      IL NEW BREW: Jayson McQueen*

                      * - Note that McQueen lead the league in HOLDS this year as a rookie. 86 games. At the top for K's from a reliever. This kid is the real deal.
