also, birley got his 40th save this season. considering i only have 68 wins, i think that deserves a note.

We were 2 games up with 2 games left to sim and we get shut out by Carolina 2 straight. That's great! I also lose Windley for 3 weeks. I'm glad there is only a week of this left.BLB

Philadelphia Freedom (87 - 68, 1st, 1 game up )
4-2 Overall We’ve now completed 4 series against Washington and they won 2 out of 3 games in each one of them. In some of the earlier series there was usually one game that could have gone either way that always went to WAS. In this series we were just happy to get the one win. Then we gave the hometown fans a “thanks for everything” sweep of Batavia in the last home series of the regular season. Everything’s on the road next week.
1-2 @ Washington
Gm 1 Two relievers allowed 6 runs in the 7th inning after Ben Irvin had already put us in an early hole by allowing 4 runs through the 2nd. Reserve OFer Paul Moffett went 3-4 1R 2RBI 1HR for the only offensive standout performance.
PHI 3 WAS 10
Gm 2 WAS SP Joe Chavarraga left with an injury in the 1st, but the offense just couldn’t get to the Bats bullpen despite racking up a total of 13 hits. All of those hits led to 1 run.
PHI 1 WAS 6
Gm 3 Nathan MacOwl picked up his 14th win on a so-so effort, 5.2 IP 7H 3ER 3K. RF Dave Ibison, who has struggled for most of the season, drove in 5 runs including 3 on a bases clearing triple.
PHI 7 WAS 4
3-0 vs Batavia
Gm 1 Joe Aurillo gave up a 1st inning homer to Shane Embrey (his 1st of his career) and that was it. He went 7.1 innings allowing 4 hits while striking out 10. He continues to suffer from ridiculously low run support and got a ND. Nathan Athey held the Freedom offense in check for 7 innings. In the 8th Dave Ibison and Paul Moffett drew full count walks with 1 out. A double steal attempt led to a throwing error by Keita Uchiyama which allowed Ibison to score and Moffett to take 3rd. The very next pitch was a WP and Moffett came home. Talk about small ball, 2 runs scored in the inning without a hit.
BAT 1 PHI 2
Gm 2 We scored 4 runs in the first inning off of Nakazo Sasaki, including a 3 run homer by Paul Moffett. We pushed 3 more across in the 5th. Moffett went 3-4 1R 4RBI. Ben Irvin went 6.2 innings allowing 1 ER on 4 hits to earn his 11th win.
BAT 1 PHI 7
Gm 3 3 straight hits in the 2nd double by Victor Alvarez, a double by Geoff Scott and a single by Dave Ibison, led to the only two runs we would score, but thanks to Tim Nathan it was enough. Nathan allowed 1 run in the 5th but that was it. He went 8 strong innings while allowing 1 ER on 6 hits. CL Joe Alveraz has been absolute money for the last month and a half. He picked up his 41st save and hasn’t allowed a run since 08/18. His last blown save was back on July 22nd.
BAT 1 PHI 2
Good:
Paul Moffett - picked up his 1st (and probably last) IL Player of the Week award. He’s an unlikely winner, but he went .438 | .500 | .938 | 1.438 with 2 HR 6 RBI. He projects to be a career AAAA player, but has produced at a reasonable level as the 4th OFer this year.
Joe Alveraz - notched his 3rd career 40+ save season and has to be one of only a few pitchers who have notched 10 wins and 40 saves in the same season. Perhaps a BLB historian could let me know if this has ever been achieved before.
Not as Good:
Greg Josey - this guy has been replaced this season by someone in the witness protection program. I fully expect him to bounce back next year, but this year he is absolutely lost. This week: .071 | .188 | .071 | .259. Wow.Last edited by BradZ; 08-21-2009, 11:33 AM.Philly Freedom

I have now lost my #2, #3 and #4 SP for the season. Not sure what to do in the playoffs. Russ McEvoy is a lock but Joe Rodriguez, Joe Zazueto, Ryan Vest and Jody Kurtz...it could be anyones guess who to use out of that grouping.Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-

Not too worried.
We're up by two in the Wild Card and Philly is +7 what their expected record should be while we're right at what the game expects. So, with any bit of regression going on over the next week, we'll pick up a spot in the 1987 playoffs.California Kodiaks - GM - 1982-2013

Advantage CAL.
It seems my expected record differential has been trending upward for the entire second half for some reason. I guess that's due to my 35-18 record in 1 run games and 13-3 record in Xtra Innings. A lot of that has to be written off to luck, but I guess a % of those totals are due in part to having the #1 bullpen in the IL (at least by ERA). I hope form holds for at least 1 more week.Philly Freedom

It's always easier to make up ground if you can handle the team you are chasing directly. As long as we both have "average" sims it would take a remarkable sim from either of them to leapfrog either of us. Not impossible for sure, but at this point I like both of our chances.
I'll take you for the division though.
