I have now lost my #2 and #4 starting pitchers (Romano Gonzalez and Cristofor Villazon), my RF (Dave Robbins) and my #4 and #5 OFs (Carlos Bamentos and Larry Fitzsymons) for the year. The playoffs are a 100% lock but I don't think this team is going to make any noise this year.

Philadelphia Freedom (83 - 63, t-1st)
3-3 Overall If our pitching can hold our opponents to 3 runs or less we have a shot at winning, otherwise our inept offense just can’t seem to put together enough decent innings to overcome anything more than that. Losing 2 of 3 to Wilmington really hurts. We managed to pick up a game on CAL to tie for the division lead, but lost 2 games in the WC standings. Our lead is now down to 2.
2-1 vs Virginia
Gm 1 Bill Gillespie took a spot start and was just ok, although for him it was pretty good. He went 7 innings and allowed 4 ERs which is impressive when you factor in the 10 hits and 4 walks he allowed. There were runners on base all night. The offense without Mel Woodbury just continues to stagger around. Seven Freedom batters managed 8 hits and three runs, but it just wasn’t enough.
VIR 4 PHI 3
Gm 2 Let’s hope this is the Ben Irvin we will see for the remainder of the season. He had been uneven since coming back from his lengthy injury layoff, but he was really good in this one: 8.0 IP 6H 1ER 1BB 4K and the win, his tenth of the year. Joe Alveraz needed 8 pitches to seal the win and earn his 37th save. Jim Newlin and Desi Rochs each had two hits and an RBI. Ben Irvin chipped in with the lumber driving in a run with a single.
VIR 1 PHI 4
Gm 3 Young SS Geoff Scott hit a 3-run homerun in the second inning and that was enough for Tim Nathan. Nathan fell 2 outs short of the CG, but still picked up his 15th win of the year as Joe Alveraz came in to get the last 2 outs. Nathan has picked up 7 wins in his 10 starts with Philly.
VIR 2 PHI 5
1-2 @ Wilmington
Gm 1 Nathan MacOwl sucked. The offense managed 5 hits. The defense committed 2 errors. We lost
PHI 1 WIL 9
Gm 2 Ray Minnoz was good for 7 innings. Unfortunately he was sent out for the 8th. He walked the leadoff hitter then surrendered a double to Dani Alvarez. Runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs while clinging to a 2 run lead. A popup to the next hitter gave a glimmer of hope that the damage could be minimized. Romo drew a walk to load the bases. In came young RP Cristian Correa who has been rock solid all year long as a rookie out of the pen. Sub .200 hitter TJ Maris battled, fouling off 6 pitches before he got one he could handle. He drove a triple to the wall in CF and cleared the bases. WIL scored a total of 4 runs in the 8th to double us up.
PHI 2 WIL 4
Gm 3 We were in serious jeopardy of being swept. Trailing 2-1 in the 9th, facing WIL closer Kenshin Krsnich, Jerry Fortin drew a leadoff walk. Jim Newlin grounded out and the runner advanced to 3rd. Needing only a run to tie the game, Desi Rochs struck out. 2 outs. Louis-Simon Gaudet, 0-4 to that point, hit a line drive double to tie the game and force extra innings. Juan Coera hita 2 run HR in the 12th and Trevor Broomfield who had already pitched the 11th finished off the Wildcats in the bottom of the 12th to avoid the sweep.
PHI 4 WIL 2
Good:
Ben Irvin - 8 IP 1 ER 4 K and picked up his 10th win
Tim Nathan 8.1 IP 2 ER 5 K and picked up his 15th win
Not as Good:
The Offense - .210 | .257 | .287 | .544, no one is stepping up to replace Woodbury and it’s going to cost us the playoffs.
Nathan MacOwl - the anchor of our rotation during the middle of the season has been tanking. On extra rest he managed to go 5 innings while allowing 7 ERs on 8 hits and 2 BBPhilly Freedom

I think that you need to figure on beating Cali for the division title or forget about the playoffs this season. Jistic has already announced that he has nothing left to play for except a better draft pick and there is no way I can sit back and let him get a better pick than me without a fight.
WC and Davenport play all of their games the last week against Los Alamos and Carolina and that looks like a pair of 7-0 sims for the latter two teams to me. So instead of figuring you've got a 2 game lead for the WC, you should be thinking that you're down by 1 1/2 in that race after factoring in the 7-0 final sim by Los Alamos and Carolina.

I'm hoping we can avoid the one game playoff that we had to participate in last year.

My offense was no great shakes prior to Woodbury going down for the season, but is particularly anemic since. Our last 4 games of the season are @ CAL. That will probably decide which team goes.
It is actually a violation of the fair-play provision of the BLB rules to tank games for a better draft spot, so as much as I would like to help one of by brothers in the Bock to a playoff spot and get a better pick than Jistic, they'll be seeing my best lineup that week.
My team has actually been playing well the last couple of sims so I could provide them with some competition that week.
