Anyone know how long they renew for? Any benefit to signing a player with auto renewing contracts to a long-term deal?

    Re-new is one year.

Only benefit I can think of is so they avoid arbitration.

I don't think the game lets you do that. As long as the player has less than 3 years major league experience at the end of the year the contract automatically renews for the minimum. I don't think it is possible to sign him to a long-term contract during this period.

Players get auto-renewed for the league minimum for their first 3 years in the league. They then get arbitration for their next 3 years.

I don't see any value to signing a auto-renew player since they're still under your control and are already making the league minimum. I usually look to re-sign players after their 2nd arbitration year ends.
