How is it even possible to get swept by Virginia and follow that by sweeping Washington?

4-3 sim for the Tobs as we remain 3 back in the Division and 6 back in the Wildcard. Jimmy Joy won IL Batter of the Month, he's really turned it on lately. I hope that's a sign of things to come, I've always thought he could be an all-star caliber SS.

          2-5

          vs. Washington 1-2
          vs. Windy City 1-2
          vs. Baltimore 0-1

Did I really expect anything else this sim? This season has been a total loss after the last two when we were so close to .500 at years end. Expansion team success is hard.

          Good

          - Roy Finbow can't hit for average but he did hit 2 more HR's, giving him 8 in 44 games.
          - My outfield played well this week. LF Fehilly (.323), CF Gilbert (.333) and RF LaVergne (.241) and are all above average in the field.
          - CL Bayer is everything I could ask for. This week 1 win, 1 save, 6 IP, 0 hits, 0 RA's. Overall 64.2 IP, 23 saves, .77 WHIP.

          Bad

          - Horrible pitching this week and a team ERA of 4.65. Starters Sasaki, Athey, and Mills all got shelled in their starts.
          - On offense 49 K's to 14 BB's. Finbow (0 BB, 7 K), LaVergne (0 BB, 8 K), and McClear (0 BB, 6 K).

          Minor Leagues

          - AA Kansas City finished atop the Stout and will be facing Sacramento in the 1st round.
          - A Camden finished with the best record in the league and will be facing the Nitro Explosives in the 1st round. They have the #1 BA and #1 ERA in the ILA. Sadley they have 4 starters hurt that won't be able to play this offseason.

Hard to complain about a 5-2 sim and grabbing a share of the Bock lead. But I'll try...

I had a one game lead on WC when the fateful "8th day" arrived. I used my 7-day lineups (which I NEVER do) because Rowell was DtD for the first 3 games and I didn't want an injury but I needed him as soon as he could get in there.

I set it to clear the lineups after each day and the pitching was set to start the highest rested starter so I thought that Brudenell would get the start in Chicago. Well the AI started a MR and I was in a big hole by the end of the 4th inning.

I guess I should have sided with riverman on this one, eh? Stupid 7-day lineups...

2-5 sim, worst of the year.

Lost Miguel Angel Padilla for a week. Pitching struggled. Hitting struggled. Hopefully this is just a one-week thing.

Got swept by Syracuse in a bunch of close games, then took 2/3 from Dallas and won 1 from Sin City for a 3-4 sim. Lost Don Leonard for 6 weeks which is quite unfortunate but it will atleast keep his innings down for the remainder of the season.

Called up a bunch of bodies to spell the older guys on the team. No big callups I decided so as to not mess with the chemistry we have going at the BLB level.

8 game lead with 32 games left... I'm getting vibes of the 2006 Mets right now! Los Lunas rattled off 5 straight to close to within .500. We have a 4 game set with Los Lunas this sim too so this week could very well propel the Javelinas back into it.

Doesn't get any tighter than this. Got a lot of games against LA the last month including a 4 game home stand. Should be decided on the field. One more week til we're fully healthy. Very tempted to bring up the #5 prospect in the league and see what he can do.

                    Why do I keep winning...

In minor league news, "AAA" Allentown secured their 1st ever playoff appearance with an 81-48 record. "A" Reading also had a winning record, but was 1.5 games out of 1st.

I had one AAA player that I was really interested in calling up for some BLB experience, C Jim Vallee, and of course he suffered a minor injury this last sim and is out for 4 weeks. Oh well.

You mean 9 games at home against us. The first 9 were all in my park. Crazy schedule.

                            Virginia Colonials (64-66)

                            This week: 5-2

                            3-0 vs Carolina
                            1-2 vs Philly
                            1-0 @ Morgantown

                            Carolina Series:
Carolina bad mojo for wishing ill will on my team because they have my 1st Rounder this season. Three really tight games that were pretty well played on both sides. Good pitching performances all around, only 1 error per team in the entire series, and a little bit of timely power from each side.

Highlight of Series: Joe Arrendondo picks up his team leading 13th win of the season in Game 3

                            Philly Series:
Used it all up in Game 1 and just couldn't hit the tough 1-2 punch of Aurillo and Irvin in dropping 2 to the Freedom.

Highlight of the Series: Nate 'The Skull' Magness throws his BLB best 3rd CG shutout of the season in the 10-0 romp and only win in Game 1. He scattered 6 hits, struck out 5 and walked only 1. He helped his own cause with an RBI double as well.

                            Morgantown Series:
Good start, but need two more wins to make it worth it's while!

                            ***

Team is finding a little roll. Nice to have Tom Zimmerman back and hitting. I think teams really missed out in not claiming that kid when he went on waivers. Clay Jolly picks up two wins this sim. He's been a solid #5 since coming up and pushing Oyos to the pen. Doesn't do anything great, but he wins.

We'll make only a couple call ups for Septemeber. The most notable name will be BA Prospect Jerry Morgan. He was fantastic in AA... I think he's undefeated in AAA... and he just kicked over to "Wants to Play in Majors". He's only 19, but I think the kid is ready. I don't see a scenerio that doesn't involve injuries where he's not my #4 next season.

                              Philadelphia Freedom (73 - 57, 2.0 GB)

4-3 Overall 3-3 on the road this week, dropping two against Los Alamos who started the week directly behind us in the WC standings.

                              1-2@ Los Alamos

Gm 1 Ben Irvin got the start and ran into early trouble, allowing 3 runs in the first two innings. He capped that off by allowing 3 more in the 5th, failing to make it through the inning. Bandits starter Jason Justice was outstanding going 8 strong allowing 0ER on 6 H and setting 10 Freedom hitters on strikes. The offense tried to get something going in the 9th against the bullpen, scoring 4 runs in the top frame with the game ending with 3B Juan Coera grounding into a double play.
                              PHI 6 LAM 7

Gm 2 Tim Nathan was decent, but not good enough to win (7IP 8H 3ER 3K). The offense managed 2 runs on 5 hits. Juan Coera and Geoff Scott each went 2-4 in the number 1 and 2 spots, but the rest of the lineup managed 1 more hit.
                              PHI 2 LAM 4

Gm 3 Nathan MacOwl got the start and did everything he could to help the Freedom avoid the sweep. He gave us 7.2 strong innings without allowing a run. Cristian Correa allowed a 9th inning HR to Oliver Rowell for the Bandits only run.
                              PHI 6 LAM 1

                              2-1@ Virginia

Gm 1 A day off heading into the three game Virginia series should have had everyone ready for a good start to the series, but Nate Magness was essentially untouchable in a complete game shutout of the Freedom. We managed 6 hits, but three of those were from our backup C Harry Endsley. It’s hard to score when you don’t string several hits together.
                              PHI 0 VIR 10

Gm 2 Colonials starter Jeff Franklin (8 IP 7H 2ER 6K) was good, but Joe Aurillo was better. Aurillo also went 8 innings, but only allowed 1ER on 3 hits while sitting down 8 batters on strikes. CL Joe Alveraz came in for the ninth and sealed the victory with his 29th save.
                              PHI 3 VIR 1

Gm 3 Ben Irvin got his second start of the week and was much better in this game. He went 7 innings allowing 5 H 0 ER and notching 7 K’s. Leadoff man Geoff Scott went 3-5 with 3 doubles scored a run and drove in another. Mel Woodbury went 3-4, scored a run and stole his 15th base. CL Joe Alveraz once again came in and closed out the 9th and picked up his 30th save.
                              PHI 3 VIR 1

1-0 vs. California We kicked off this important series against division leader CAL in the right way. Tim Nathan continues to impress since he came over from Carolina, improving his Freedom W/L record to 5-2 3.00 ERA in 48 innings (7 GS). Jerry Fortin was the player of the game going 3-5 2R | 3RBI, hitting his 18th homer of the year.
                              CAL 3 PHI 9

                              Good:

SS Geoff Scott - .321 | .345 | .643 | .988 - He hit his IL leading 10th triple. He has followed up a fairly impressive rookie year in ’86 by improving across the board.

                              Not as Good:

Not a lot to pick on this time, but the pitching was a little shaky this week, posting a team ERA of 3.90.
