Philadelphia Freedom (66 - 51, t-1st)
4-2 Overall
3-0 vs. Morgantown
Gm 1 Joe Aurillo got the start and was almost unhittable, mostly due to wildness. He went 6.1 IP and allowed only 1 H, but walked 4 and left due to pitch count restrictions. The bullpen allowed 3 H in the remaining innings and 2 unearned runs. 2 run HR’s by Newlin, Woodbury and recent call-up Louis-Simon Gaudet were more than enough offense to take the home win and give the crowd some fireworks.
MOR 2 PHI 8
Gm 2 Ben Irvin made his second start since returning from a lengthy layoff. He was ok, but not great. His control hasn’t fully returned. I wish there was a way to send injured players on rehab assignments. Jerry Fortin crushed a 2 out, 2R HR off closer Jon Cleary to send the game to extras. Reserve OFer Paul Moffett hit a walk off double in the bottom of the 10th.
MOR 6 PHI 7
Gm 3 Nathan MacOwl was solid, but not spectacular, in picking up his 12th W of the year (6.0 IP 7H 2ER 3K). The offense posted 3 runs in the 1st inning on 3 singles and a double. MacOwl and 2 relievers made sure those 3 runs were enough culminating with Joe Alveraz picking up his 26th save..
MOR 2 PHI 3
1-2 vs. Windy City
Gm 1 This game was doomed from the beginning. Bill Gillespie took the hill (despite not being scheduled to start) and did what he has done all year, took a dump in his pants.
CHI 6 PHI 5
Gm 2 Tim Nathan continues to give us exactly what we needed when we made the decision to acquire him (7.1 IP 6H 1ER 7K). The offense collectively treated former Freedom farmhand Raul Carillo very rudely, touching him up for 7 runs in 5 innings. 2B Desi Rochs capped off a 6 run 5th inning with a 3 run homer. Carrillo showed pride by finishing off the inning on his own rather than having to hand the ball to the skipper.
CHI 1 PHI 7
Gm 3 Fairytale SP Ray Minnoz hit a slight bump in the road by allowing 4ER in 6.2IP. When your opponent is dealing Dunmore Theodore, that’s just not going to get it done. We actually led 2-1 going into the 6th but Minnoz ran out of gas.
CHI 6 PHI 2
Good:
Louis-Simon Gaudet - called him up this week after he had spent most of the season in AAA with a broken thumb. He said he belonged in the Majors and I can’t argue with his first week’s success. He must have been in the player of the week discussions: .435/.458/.739/1.197 5R 1HR 3RBI 4SB
Tim Nathan - another really good start and a W
Yeong-suk Kang - may have found his niche on the roster: RP. 3G 3.2IP 0ER 5K
Not as Good:
Bill Gillespie - I didn’t want him anywhere near the field this week and he managed to sneak on the field anyways: 5.0 IP 9H 6ER and a lossPhilly Freedom

2-4
vs. Los Alamos 1-2
vs. Wilmington 1-2
Good
- Finbow hit another HR, that's 5 HR's, 20 RBI's in 31 games.
- RF Virgil LaVergne hit .343 in July and is hitting .409 in August. Batavia could finally have their first above .300 hitter for the year.
- I now have 4 prospects in the Top 100. SS Ednams (trade), CF Reyna (draft), RF Gibson (hurt - draft), and C May (trade). Not a ton but it's a start.
Bad
- A good portion of my team is angry.
- As a team we hit .212 for the week.
