Well, there it is, Denny Erwood's career is done. I can't see him coming back from another major set back.

After spending 10 months on the DL, he made a relief appearance last week. This week he made his first start in nearly a year and after two innings was removed from the game with pain in his elbow. He is now out for 11-12 months with bone chips in his elbow.

How my team has managed to perform so well without it's best pitcher is amazing, but I sure wish he was around. This mostly hurts because Erwood was my first major promotion in BLB. To see his career derail because of arm injuries is unfortunate. I feel like I lost a little sim friend.

5-1 week for the Tobs, taking us above .500 for the first time since May. I don't know how we're suddenly winning games after being so awful for most of the year, but it would have been nice to do this earlier. Despite our hot streak we're still 6 games out and aren't headed to the playoffs.

Frank Hamlet has been hitting .323 since the trade deadline with 10 RBIs.

Only game we lost this week spoiled a gem from our rookie Hector Castre. He pitched 7 innings, only gave up 4 hits and struck out 10 but we didn't score a run to help him out. I'm still high on Castre, if it hadn't been for a bad June he'd be having a very good rookie year. Between him, Shawn Gates and Hector Perez (AAA), I think we have 3 pretty solid pitchers for the future.

1 - 5. Apparently the team saw my last post; where I made the rookie mistake of pointing out my team's fine record since the All-star break. First Pawtucket wiped their butts with our caps, then we dropped the obligatory 2 of 3 to the Guides.

The only highlights of the weeK:

Sephton and Andradez are coming off the DL; AND...

Donato Guardamagni gets the better of Maine's Teagan Corrigan in one of the DL's best SP match-ups. Unfortunately, a rain delay in the 6th may have shortened the outing for both guys. Despite former closer Carl Bell's best efforts to give away the game, the Javelinas managed to chip away at Maine's pitching throughout the game and come away with the win.

3-3 sim, with losing 2/3 to the Bulls (both by 1 run) and taking 2 out of 3 from the Clowns. We now have a 9 game lead in the middle of August- this has been a dream season so far.

The next month and a half will be exciting. Anything can happen at this point and I'm not even thinking about anything ahead of the next week.

Said it once, and I'll say it again...

Los Alamos can burn (for all I care)!

Two last at bat come behind wins for Los Alamos to leave California with a crappy 3-3 week when we were looking at 5-1.

              Washington Bats (76-41)

2-1 vs. Davenport 2-1 vs. Baltimore
Lost two games by a combined three runs. I'll take it.

              The Good
-1B Eddie O'Fallon re-signed for 3-year $57,000,000 guaranteed contract. A little pricey, but I can afford it. He has 13 RBI and 13 runs in his first 19 games with the club.

-SS Jack Dynes is starting for the injured R.A. Grounds. He has hit safely in his last seven games, totalling 13 hits.

              -As a team...wow.... a .346 average with a .975 OPS this week...

              The Bad
-RF Dave Robbins is done for the year. Fucked up his back. Michio Nago will move from center to right and Larry Fitzsymons will start in center. I'll be calling up powerful OF Oscar Paulet from Triple-A Richmond.

-At June 25th, Joe Chavarraga was 9-1 with a 2.40 ERA. He is now 10-4 with a 3.31 ERA. He has not made it out of the fifth inning in five of his last seven starters. Previously, he had done that once before June 25th. The soon to be 39-year-old might be done.

              The Ugly
-Reliever Max Oliver is pissed he isn't closing. Angry, even. Came over from a trade with Syracuse. He got his first save opportunity this sim with Grant Lewis tired. He of course blew it, giving up two earned runs and recording one out in the top of the ninth against Davenport. He will likely not be brought back and if he isn't careful, he could be left off the post-season roster.

When he was with me there were stretches where he would be angry but still pitch well. It wasn't until this year that he just quit on me. His ratings are still there as of now but I think he could be part of the Syracuse curse where good young players turn into AA journeymen for no apparent reason. Enjoy.

Not worried about the season anymore, more concerned about financials. If Los Alamos decides not to take all the money this year and prorates it, I might finish in the green.

Too bad this FA class sucks, because I'll have roughly $50 million to spend.

I didn't know that was an option in trades. I thought all money is given up front but the team getting the money has the option to decide where to put it.

I thought you could agree on a way to disperse it before the trade was made but apparently it's up to the person that is receiving it.

No, it's not an option. Money in a deal can be spread out by the receiving team... but it always comes out of the sending teams funds immediately.

Which is really fucking me in the ass financially right now. I'd be $3 million in the green if it wasn't for that.

But the long term benefits far outweight this.

                              California Kodiaks (66-51)

                              2-1 vs. Virginia
                              1-2 @ Los Alamos

                              The Good
                              - Neto Bermeo. Player of the week for the IL. Hit .385/.448/.615/1.063 with 1 HR/6 RBI's.

                              - Offense had a semi turn around. Hit .245/.333/.347/.680. Not good, but it's a start.

                              - Starting pitching. Outside of Joe Lopez the group was fantastic again. Can't ask for more out of the guys.

                              The Bad
                              - Bullpen. They took all three loses and Negron blew a save for The Wilkerson. Not happy about that at all.

                              - Joe Lopez, 1-0, 6.75 ERA, 1.65 WHIP.

                              The Ugly
                              - Los Alamos. They are seriously wrecking my season. Every time I think I put them away, they come back and break my heart. They must be stopped!!!
