    Washington Bats (65-33)

    1-2 @ California

    3-1 vs. Morgantown

    The Good
-CF Michio Nago returns from the DL this sim. Huge lift for my offense. The All-Star outfielder was having a career year before getting jurt.
-LF Miguel Angel Padilla raised his July batting average to .370
-SP Russ McEvoy is having one of the best seasons for a starter in Washington history. He is now 13-3, 2.12 ERA, .89 WHIP and a 118/27 K/BB split.

    The Bad
-Team has really cooled off their bats. Not sure how many 0-3, 1-4 losses I can handle.
-Speaking of poor hitting, Dave Robbins went 2/21 this sim. Man he has struggled.

    The Ugly
    -That Brode injury.

    Next Week: 3 @ Wilmington, 4 @ Virginia
    Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
    Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041
    Washington Bats - 1979-2013

Maybe it's just me... but every time our teams play it is some of the ugliest baseball to watch. I almost want to skip inning after inning because nothing ever happens. It's like both teams are playing a game of which team makes an error or walks a batter first.

      Just terrible to watch.

Well, I can understand why you normally wouldn't want to watch our series...because your team is usually the one making the mistakes and ending up with three Ls.

No but seriously, we just have similar clubs. Our starting pitching is #1 and #2 in the IL. Our defense is top notch. Both have decent bullpens. Usually pretty low scoring games.

I'm sure the 7-game series we have in the playoffs is going to be just as boring to watch.

There is no need to talk about my sorry sacks of crap. Even though we're still fairly young, I'm beginning to think I need to scrap the whole thing and start over.

Denver, on the other hand, is the real deal. With Brode out I'd put money on Denver taking the Pilsner. If OOTP doesn't get in the way it could be awhile before they give it back up as well.
I agree Denver is young & good but I don't think because we lose our #1 starter we're out of it....my basis to back that up is this:

          <table class="lpo" width="270" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td colspan="2" class="h0" style="padding: 2px;">Team Batting Stats & Rankings</td></tr><tr> </tr><tr><td class="slg">Batting Average</td><td class="srg">.273 - 2nd in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="sl">On-Base Percentage</td><td class="sr">.348 - 2nd in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="slg">Slugging Percentage</td><td class="srg">.422 - 1st in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="sl">On-Base + Slugging</td><td class="sr">.769 - 1st in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="slg">Runs Scored</td><td class="srg">507 - 3rd in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="sl">Hits</td><td class="sr">927 - 2nd in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="slg">Extra-Base Hits</td><td class="srg">304 - 3rd in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="sl">Home Runs</td><td class="sr">90 - 2nd in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="slg">Bases-On-Balls</td><td class="srg">387 - 3rd in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="sl">Strikeouts</td><td class="sr">494 - 1st in DL</td></tr> <tr><td class="slg">Stolen Bases</td><td class="srg">53 - 5th in DL</td></tr></tbody></table>

I still see Dallas as the favorite in the DL.

You going to call up Vern Pearson?

              Also Denver is without:

1B Joe Seagarra: Arguably it's best run producer (season)
SP Rayford Winchel: Arguably it's best starter before the injury (season)
SS Jose Sanchez: Taking his second yearly vacation to the DL. I hear it's nice around this time of the year. (3 weeks)
CF Orlin Montero: Stolen base and run scoring threat who was really picking it up over the past two months. (2-3 weeks)

And it's only now getting back SP Denny Erwood with no telling what he's capable of at this point after a major injury. He's definitely taken a ratings hit as his scouting report suggests he's a middle rotation guy now.

Couple that with a bunch of starters that really shouldn't be pitching this well, I don't know if they'll be able to sustain this level of performance for the rest of the year. The injuries will eventually take a toll on this team.

Dallas is way too good to just lose their edge over one pitching injury. It'll be close, but I think Denver's best chances are the wild card.

But Denver is also way under budget and could definately draw some rentals....

                I'm still picking Dallas though.

Dude has been red-hot in the DH league.

I should have never traded that guy.

Yeah, if you had hung on to Fitts you could have had a 7-man rotation and given your starters a week vacation in between starts.

Kind of, but not entirely true.

Trading for rentals costs the future. Denver is not trading away any of it's top prospects for a run this year. It'll consider other avenues. Denver is still a mid-market team and will always play as one.

Second, the under budget is an illusion. Lots of money spent on the staff (which undoubtedly helped) and scouting. There were also a few staff firings that costs some dollars.

Too bad Fitts hasn't pitched for Pat in like 5 years... and has been a part of the California organization the whole time.

I wonder if the game would let me. Do a 6-man rotation with a spot starter at 100%?

I believe the spot starter just takes the place of the last starter in the rotation.

If you put in 50% they will share half the duties.

Never tried 100%. It should completely substitute the fifth guy, but I get the feeling that doesn't happen.

More than likely no. If you look at my rookies I like to give them more than enough time in the minors (Adrian Diaz was without a doubt my fastest call-up). I might call him up in September but not even sure about that. Right now I'm trying to trade for a pitcher...if anyone has a good pitcher who would qualify to be either a #1-#3 starter available please let me know.
