    5-2 Sim
    1-0 vs. Washington
    3-0 @ Morgantown
    1-2 @ Virginia

    The Good
Ivan Garcia is looking like a budding star this year. He hit .391/.517/.609 with 4 RBI and 4 stolen bases. We looked like a tough team coming out of the 2nd half.

    The Very Bad
-Wilton Harcourt hurt himself in against who else.....the Virginia Colons. He's gone for 8-9 weeks and our replacement is Tomas Cirlos and league newcomer, Zi-Cheng Jin. We'll miss that bat, and the playoffs.

Although we moved into a 4-way tie into first place for the Wildcard, I doubt that will last long without a surprise showing by Cirlos. Here's his chance to show some of that old Carolina magic. We probably should be sellers with this injury, but we're going to try our best to make it until then.

        California Kodiaks (53-38)

        1-0 vs. Los Alamos
        0-3 vs. Carolina
        2-1 @ Davenport

        The Good
        - Conan Wilkerson pitched eight shut out innings. Bullpen blew the save though.

        - Joe Toapanta continues to ride a hot streak to a 11-3 record.

        - Harry Elliott went 11/26 with three walks. Finished up with a .900+ OPS for the week.

        The Bad
        - Romn Magueu. He blew Wilkerson's great outing and gave up another run in the Davenport series.

        - Overall hitting. Another down week with the bats. We only hit .233 with a team OPS of .648. Gotta do better.

Next Week: 3 vs. Washington, 4 @ Baltimore

4-2 week and we lost Farelo and Allmark for the season. Farelo I don't mind so much, but Allmark will be tough to replace.

I managed to go 4-2 last sim and take a slim lead in the Bock but I lost two more players after losing two the previous sim as well. I am likely to miss Vern Branch who is out for four weeks. He had just been heating up as some of my other players had been cooling off after hot starts so it is a tough blow.

Ivan Martinez who was acquired in the Dave Robbins deal will replace Branch on the roster and probably start both ways. Martinez has hit just .274/.363/.385 in AAA this season so we are not expecting a lot on offense from him, but he is an accomplised fielder at all of the infield positions and could stick on the roster after Branch returns.

Steve Bing should make his Davenport debut this sim and I hope he can pick up some of the slack from the loss of Branch and Clint Lance last week. I am not sure if I should platoon Bing or not. Raul Perez has been a second half player for me and has shown recent signs of heating up with a couple of big hits last sim.

I've got four with Windy City next sim and with 5 guys on the DL probably the very best I can hope for is to sneak out one win there and stay within shouting distance. At least no one is out for the season and I have at least the prospect of a healthy team for the stretch drive in the unlikely event that I remain in contention that long.

He will probably hit better than Robbins.

Ivan Martinez, one of the few, if ever draft day trades in BLB history.

For some reason I really liked Dusty Lewis and Pat liked Martinez so we swapped picks after we made them.

I eventually cut Lewis, Pat signed him and then trades Martinez away.

It is sort of hard for me to understand why whoever made the earlier pick in that sequence of moves did what they did, but I think I can guess who it was.

Yeah...loved Martinez...took the pitcher you liked and added a late round pick. I saw Lewis on the FA-wire this season...needed a SP body in Single-A....perfect fit!

Probably one of the more crazy transaction histories for sure. Well, besides Dave Wilde and Yoshitora Kitamura being traded for one another twice!

Kitamura was an old favorite of mine.

After he was traded twice for Dave Wilde, I picked him up on waivers and he hit .302 with 18 HRs and 98 RBIs for me the next season. That was the first time I made the playoffs and I doubt I would have made it without him. He never did much after that year though.

Not sure how you ever squeezed those numbers out of that guy. Unreal.

It's like the season that 3B had in Wilmington a few years back. He won the IL ROY, was like 25, and retired by 28 because he was a FA.

I made the pick of Martinez if I recall correctly.

I think by that point in the draft I had it on auto draft.

I think Pat PM'ed me with an offer for Martinez who he wanted so I agreed to a swap with an extra pick.

Yeah, you were on auto. After he went off the board, I PM'd you if I could add a late pick and you just auto pick again. You went with a pitcher that I actually had on my draft list, who turned out to be a bust and Martinez turned out to be solid. Go figure. Auto got it right.

I am pretty sure that OOTP occassionally designates a scrub to have a good year. My scouts (back then it was plural) never thought much of Kitamura but it would have been silly to sit a guy who was raking like he was, so I didn't pay any attention to them.

I experienced a similar situation when I first got OOTP and before I joined the BLB. I set up a solo league and I had a utility guy whom the scouts didn't like at all. Someone got hurt and he moved in and, as I recall, hit better than even Kitamura did above, but he never had even a decent year after that one.

I do believe the scrub theory.
