At first he wouldn't deign to listen to an offer, but now he has informed me he is happy in Davenport and wants to stay. All I have to do is pony up $36 mil over two years. Even though Cisneros has started hitting in AAA, I don't think he will be quite ready at the beginning of next season, so I'll probably need to do something at catcher for 1988.
I'm going through the same thing with O'Loughlin. I wasn't sure how the old man would pitch so I only signed him to a 1-year deal. He wants an extension but at $7.5 per for 2 years. I'm at $5.5 and $7.5 (2nd year team option) but he's still not biting. He could either be like some of the other old guys pitching very well into their late 30's or he could be a bust...hate blowing $7m to find out which way he'll go but just might take a shot on him.

      Philadelphia Freedom (45 - 37, 5.0 GB)

      2-4 overall

      2-1 vs. Carolina

The week got off to a great start with two well played wins over Carolina, but then just as I was afraid of everybody decided to take off for the All-Star break early and we dropped the last 4 games culminating with a 3 game sweep at the hands of Los Alamos.

Gm 1: Ray Minnoz continued his surprising season and went 7.0 solid innings allowing 1 ER and 8 baserunners (6H/2BB). Leadoff hitter Desi Rochs did his job and got on base 4 times and scored both of the Freedom runs. In what is becoming a real theme/problem we stranded 10 runners on base.
      PHI 2 CAR 1

Gm 2: Joe Aurillo had a pedestrian effort allowing 3ER in 6.1 IP setting down 8 by strikeout. Mel Woodbury hit the first pitch of the home half of the 9th out of the ballpark to tie the score and planted a BS on Carolina RP Matt Rogers. Joe Alveraz rolled through the top of the 10th in a 1-2-3 inning setting up bottom of the 10th 2 out heroics. SS Geoff Scott hit a 2 out, 2 strike triple to RF and 3B Juan Coera delivered him with a sharp single to seal the win.
      PHI 5 CAR 4 (Team LOB 12)

Gm 3: We felt good going into this one with a chance to bring home a sweep with Nathan MacOwl taking the mound. He has been incredibly reliable and solid for us reaching double digit wins before the All-Star break. He just didn’t have it on this day. Only 3 batters into the game and Carolina had already plated 2 runs. 2 HRs allowed in the 4th gave the Tobs all the runs they would need in this one. Overall MacOwl went 4+ innings and allowed 5 ER. The Freedom offense was all over the bases collecting 11 hits and drawing 6 walks but only managed to push across 3 runs leaving 13 men on base.
      PHI 3 CAR 5

      0-3 vs Los Alamos

Gm 1: Fill in starter Ricardo Mojera went 7.1 innings and was good enough to win for the first 7. Unfortunately he ran out of gas when he as asked to go back out for the 8th and gave up 2ER (4ER total for the game). The offense could only muster 3 runs despite 6XBH out of the 9 total hits (5 doubles, 1 triple).
      PHI 3 LAM 4

Gm 2: SP Bill Gillespie gave a good effort for his 8 innings allowing 3ER. Unfortunately the offense managed to scratch out the first (and only) run in the 8th inning on a Mel Woodbury double.
      PHI 1 LAM 4

Gm 3: Ray Minnoz took another turn and gave us 6 innings allowing 2ER. That is exactly the kind of start that we are hoping for when he’s on the mound. He continues to turn in solid performances when he by all rights isn’t even supposed to be on the ML roster. The offense mailed in a poor effort managing 3 hits (all singles) and nothing else.
      PHI 0 LAM 3

      Good:

      SP Rayman Minnoz – 13.0 IP 3ER 2.08ERA/1.08WHIP 8Ks

RP Cristián Correa – continues to put in week after week of solid efforts. Another 4.2 IP without giving up any runs

      Not as Good:

The offense as a whole – We simply don’t score enough runs and we leave too many men on base, when we actually get men on base.

        Sometimes it works out, though.

I handed Rayford Winchell a one-year deal to pitch for me and he goes 7-5, 3.20 ERA.

A week ago, I offered him a two year extension (team option). He's not asking for too much more so I had no problem offering.

Then he gets hurt for the season.

Guess what was the first thing I did once I saw that he had been done for the year. Easy. I ran to my news to see if he accepted the deal. He rejected it saying he wanted more money (not sure why, really. I nearly matched his demands. Damn greedy guy. No one wanted you!)

Anyway, I would have been stuck with a guy out for 8 months and likely taking a ratings hit as a result. Now I can let him walk. I dodged a bullet there.

That's what happened to me with Romano Gonzalez.

He is having a great, unexpected year...I declined his team option for $20 mill next year, because at 38 I didn't expect to bring him back. Well, I lowballed him twice in a row on a contract offer, and then a third time went to almost his exact demands. That same sim he got hurt and is out for the reason. Really glad he declined that last offer as well.

Maybe now that he is hurt he will lower his demands?

            3-3 Sim

            3-3 Isn't too bad. better than 0-6

To those who have sent me some PMs I'm still doing some of the math. I'm currently away from my laptop and home right now until later tonight, so I'm surfing the HTML looking at the offers.

My fear with O'Loughlin really isn't this ability, its the injuries. 1984 and 1986 were pretty rough years.

If you do take a chance on him and it doesn't look like it is working out maybe you will be able to get Spectre to take him off your hands for a couple of mid-round picks like he did with Jorge.
