1987 All-Star Game Voting

I don't know who the other person that voted for Jayson McQueen was (IL Reliever), but good eye. I expected him to get a little more love than he got. He's pitching a ton of games/innings and posting pretty gaudy K totals for a reliever. I didn't expect him to make the team, but I figured he'd get more than 2 votes.

I'm surprised he even got a vote (besides one from you.) Not that he isn't having a great year, there is just a ton of really good IL RPs this season.

I mean, voters can only choose five players:

Hard to argue he deserved a vote over any of them...and that was nine players..... With that said however, the dude is legit. Arguably the MVP of your entire pitching staff. While he (likely) won't make the All-Star team, I won't be shocked if he finishes in the top five voting for the Last Call Relief Award at seasons end. Actually, I expect him to be.

He should get New Brew votes too....

I don't think Middle Relievers get enough love in ASG voting. That's why Negron got my #1 reliever vote. He's been great in Cali. Closers put up pretty numbers... but I don't know that they deserve all 5 spots.

McCoy isn't even the starting SS on his own team as he only has 13 starts there all season. He deserves consideration to make the team as a pinch hitter but a SS he aint.

The conversation for the best SS in the IL so far this season should be between O'Hegarty and Solis. O is clearly better with the wood in his hand, but Solis' superior defense is worth about 2 outs per week and should put him in the running.

I don't know what I was talking about. I'm not stoned (yet) but I must have been looking at someone else. I still think he should be a bench bat instead of the starting SS in AS game though.

It's a sample size thing.... Same reason two people voted for Tom Zimmerman at 2B. His raw numbers are great... but he's been injured since May 12th... he didn't deserve any votes... but his AVGs are gaudy and 2B in the IL is so weak, he's still pingin' a 16.1 VORP with only 130 ABs.

Actually there are quite a few very deserving starters in the IL again this season and it is tough to limit it to 5.

A quick question for my own edification: Are the in-game AllStar selections edited to match our league selections? For instance if I look at Mel Woodbury and his player report shows that he is a two time AllStar does that mean he was selected by the game or twice he has been voted by the owners?

If the ingame AllStar figures don't match the owner's picks is there any place other than searching through threads where AllStar rosters from prior years can be found?

OPS almost always trumps anything else in my decision process UNLESS I look at batting average and it's absolutely horrendous.

There is an outfielder (I forget who) that has a nice OPS but he can't hit a lick. I refuse to vote for him. Every year it's been the same way with him too. I feel like I'm his antagonist in his biographic film coming in 10 years.

I respect OPS and OBP and all that, but I also want a guy that can hit for average. When there are other players in the league hitting for average and putting up similar numbers, it's difficult for me to ignore them.

I doubt I could ever vote for a player that played only a few games because I also look at runs and stolen bases. If the player is amongst the leaders in runs at his position then it doesn't matter if he did it in half the games, he's an all-star.
