    California Kodiaks (35-23)

    2-0 @ Philadelphia
    1-1 vs. Batavia
    3-0 @ Baltimore

    The Good
    - Robby Shannon got player of the week, again. This week he didn't show much power but he made up for it by hitting... 14/26, .538/.625/.692/1.317. Only picked up 4 RBI's on the week though.

    - Conan Wilkerson goes 2-0 this week. 2.25 ERA in 12 IP. Also picked up his first homer on the year and is batting .286 for the season.

    - Alberto Grandon had a big week. .423/.467/.846/1.313. I'd love to see what our line up could be if he has somehow reverted back to form. Either way, I'll always take two HR's, two 3B's, and one 2B from my eight hole hitter.

    The Bad
    - Oswaldo Escarcaga, wasn't very sharp and then went down with a sore shoulder. He has been 100% durable since coming over to California in 1982. Lets hope this injury isn't a sign of things to come.

    - Nick Duncan couldn't catch lightning in a bottle twice. Filling in for an ill Escarcaga, Duncan was spotted a 5-0 lead but quickly gave it back to Philadelphia. Thankfully the offense came to play and got a come from behind win... but Duncan was not good. On the positive side, Duncan is hitting .400 with 1 HR and 2 RBI's.

    - Román Magueu, he continues to get the job done by picking up save after save (19/20) but he's very sloppy. Lefties have been teeing off on my closer this year.

    - Juan Carlos Ramírez did not have a good start to his second stint in the majors. The AAA superstar, Ramírez could only muster a 4/29 mark in his first action in the BLB since 1985. He'll have another week on the roster until he heads back to AAA when José Compres returns from the DL.

Next Week: 3 vs. Mississippi, 3 vs. Sin City

You are now 5-1 @ PHI this year. CAL is a large part of our mediocre home record. We haven't made our way out to the west coast yet and won't do so until the end of July. I hope we are able to return the favor, but I'm not counting on it.

Oddly enough, I'm 20-9 on the road this year and only 15-14 at home.

          COMING UP....

Interleague play!!! Yeah!!! Drawings Dallas and Denver first!!! Boooo!!! At least they're at home! Not sure how it aligns, but definately would love to get a Magness vs Brode in this week.
Looking at both teams... it does actually line up that if nothing changes... we should get Magness-Brode II in Game 2 of our series.

You probably have more fans on the road.

Denver Brode is a bad, bad man. 11.78 K/9 from a just turned 23 yo SP. Wow.

                Yeah, he's a stud.

When I took Magness over Brode, I felt pretty good that Brode would probably be better in the long run, but Magness would be ready sooner (which is what I needed).

Their first head-to-head was pretty weak. I think Dallas won, but they both got hit hard. Definately not a pitcher's duel.

                  Yes.

Would definately merit NBC Game of the Week.

Yep, I noticed that too...looking forward to seeing that match-up again.

If I remember right the first one was nothing special...I actually think it was a somewhat offensive game.

Didn't these guys just meet in 1985? If so, it seems like the schedule is not right this year. Aren't we supposed to play each division in the other league every 3 years?

This is my real-life version of Brode: http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/team/pl...ayer_id=502706

(at least hopefully in a season as he continues to figure things out)

I was thinking the same thing when I noticed I was playing Virginia again this year.

Yep... it was Sim 10 of 1985...

                            Riverman's breakdown...

I was wondering why no one had commented on the highly touted Magness/Brode matchup so I decided to check it out. 13 hits and 9 earned runs between the two in just 5.2 IP for both. The main difference in the game was that Dallas' bullpen dominated while the Virginia skipper managed to find a reliever who pitched even worse than The Skull.

                              Also big news for California.

For the first time in history we have a player on the Top Players list. Just our luck, we actually have two!

                              #6 hitter - Robby Shannon - .360/.435/.658/1.093 with 18 HR/43 RBI's. 34.9 VORP
                              #18 pitcher - Conan Wilkerson - 6-2, 2.79 ERA, 63/21 K/BB, 1.00 WHIP. 18.2 VORP

We're very proud of both guys!

Its seems like there is a lot of parity in the league now.
