    Next sim: Thursday

    Interleague play this sim.

    4-3 Sim.

Though I lost 2 of 3 to Syracuse, that was a good series. Three shutouts. All pitching.

      Wow, 1-6.

Pitching was atrocious, hitting was better. I changed my roster, it's reflected on the website, but the game didn't follow it.

Also where do I post Ketchams injury from 7 months to 180 days?

        Philadelphia Freedom (32 - 26, 3.0 GB)

        5-2 overall

We’re doing our best to stay afloat right now. We were without Aurillo and Irvin this week (although Aurillo did get a token relief appearance for 1 inning after being out for 6 days). We just want to stay within shouting distance of 1st until Irvin comes back in a couple of months. Then we’ll see if we can make an end of the season push.

        0-2 vs.CAL
        2-0 vs. BAL
        3-0 @ BAT

        Good:

Bill Gillespie – He was called out before the week to step up his game and fill the void with a couple of our top pitchers on the shelf. His response? A 3 hit white-washing of the Muckdogs on 92 pitches. That was Gillespie’s 3rd career SHO.

Mel Woodbury – another player who was mentioned as needing to step up his game. His May was fairly mediocre. His start to June: .462/.588/1.115/1.704 with 5 HR and 2 SB.

Geoff Scott – back into the swing of things in his second week back from a month long layoff. .357/.438/.643/1.080 2 HR 6 RBI. Not quite Woodburian, but will certainly take that kind of production from a just turned 22 year old SS

        Not as Good:

Greg Josey is still not hitting

Desi Rochs had a terrible week in the leadoff spot, posting an OBP of .219. No wonder Woodbury’s 5 HR produced 7 RBI. Getting runners on base consistently continues to be a sore spot.

Staying right around .500, just one game behind Maine. I'm happy with my hitting, as it's better than it was last year, but my pitching is currently failing. I think a few changes in the 25 man roster might be coming soon to try and shake some things up. One move, of course, will be replacing the annually injured Frank Donegan, who is gone for 3 more months....Ed Andrew should be returning from his stay in AAA.

4-3 sim, not bad overall. Week started out strong going 3-1 until Hartford came to town. Took only 1 of 3 against the Whalers this week.

Adam Nickell is now hitting a solid .388 after going 12 for 24 last sim and then Old Man Eires hitting another two bombs.

Pitching is a huge concern right now though with Cafferty sucking the big one though.

Playboys heating up. Ever since we tweaked the lineups. Went 5-2 and FINALLY at .500 only 1 game back. We outscored our opponents 2-1 this week. Kirby's heating up and some young bullpen arms showing good signs. Also get Ramirez coming off the DL in one week.

Things are looking up for a little run.

has this happened before? a player announcing he'll retire at the end of the season?

I don't remember it in our league, but i've seen it on more than one occasion in my single player game.

Yeah, it happens almost every year.

FYI - Now that you know he's done, you should decline that mutual option for next year and get him off next year's books so you have a better picture for extensions.

I know Lanbin for Washington said he was retiring before the season was over.

Can it make any difference if he is ready to play again mid December instead of mid January? Maybe a 7-month injury results in a ratings hit but the 6-month one does not, for instance.

It might even be better to leave it at 7 months since I don't think that injured players are subject to off-field injuries. A guy who has been cooped up for 6 months and recovers in mid-December sounds like a good candidate for a broken leg from a skiining accident to me.

                              Virginia Colonials (31-27)
                              2-0 @ Morgantown
                              1-1 @ Washington
                              1-2 vs Wilmington

If you would have told me that my team would hit a combined .190/.275/.306/.581 for the week, I would have told you that we were going to go 1-6 at best, but more likely 0-7. Thankfully, a combination of great pitching and some poor offensive performances from our opponents allowed the Colonials to squeek out another winning sim.

Joe Arrendondo notched his IL leading 7th and 8th wins on the season this week. He pitched 14.0 total innings, scattering 11 hits allowing 1 earned run and striking out 9. His 7th straight win brings him to 8-1 on the season, his only loss coming in the infamous 4/20 game at Washington.

"The Skull" took the bump twice this week in the tale of two starts. His first at Morgantown ended with his second complete game shutout of the season. He allowed 4 hits and punched out 9 Mohawks in the 7-0 win. Back at home on Sunday, he got hit hard early by the Wildcats and his Coach decided not to send him back out for the 4th inning. The Bullpen did a great job picking him up, but the offense just couldn't generate enough.

The bullpen this week was outstanding! This 6-pack of relievers worked a total of 19 innings. They allowed no runs, 11 hits, 2 walks and struckout 22 hitters. Rookie Jayson McQueen hit triple digits on the gun on more than a few occasions and continues to build a cult following. A small profile in the latest edition of the Sporting News has elevated his name recognition across the league (National Popularity up to "Well Known").
No real highlights at the dish. Vincent Nino hit two more bombs, but almost all of the other bats were quiet.

                              COMING UP....

Interleague play!!! Yeah!!! Drawings Dallas and Denver first!!! Boooo!!! At least they're at home! Not sure how it aligns, but definately would love to get a Magness vs Brode in this week.
