    4-2

    vs. Morgantown 1-2
    vs. Washington 3-0

    Good

    - SP Nathan Athey. 5-1 with a 1.70 ERA, 44 K's, 14 BB's on the year. Pitched a 1 hitter vs. Washington on May 16th. At 27 years old he makes a solid rotation to go with Stephens and Sasaki.

    Bad

    - Hitting is still atrocious. Hitting .201 on the week and going 4-2 is a testament to our pitching.

Not what I needed. I love how Noke sucks ever since he came here.

        Pig Tales - May 18, 1987

        4 - 2: 2 - 1 Vs Clowns; 2 - 1 Vs Whales

With the exception of a blown save by Bell, my pitching was very good this week. Even Krieger and Goderie had good outings. Hopefuly that's a sign they've started to get into a rhythm. However, Bell may have just lost his closer spot to "Godzilla". They both want to be Closer, and Bell started becoming erratic last season. I'm not happy with his effort thus far in '87.

As for the hitting...What else can you say, other than we have the lowest team average in the DL. My leadoff and cleanup hitters are both under .200 right now. I'm not getting a good vibe from this team...

          3-3 Sim for me.

Took 2 of 3 from Los Alamos, then took 1 of 3 from Baltimore.

The only win against Baltimore was a 8-0 CG Win for Danny Wombwell, only allowing 2 Hits.

Guess that's the highlight. Just happy to have a .500 Sim.

We continue to lead the league in errors and unearned runs. Our bullpen aquisitions have been getting shelled. My run producers aren't producing...yet we're only 5 out. If we put any of this together we're in striking distance.

Make some moves from the AAA club, also took the time to tweak the lineup more than I have in years. Let's see what happens here.

Called up Pat Yates from AAA, he'll get a 1 month look at SP. 14th overall prospect.

              2-4 (2-1 @ Carolina| 0-3 vs. Los Alamos)

Good: Started out the week by taking 2 out of 3 @ CAR. The one loss was a 1-0 defeat in the second game in which the two teams combined for a total of 5 hits, all singles and 0 earned runs. We must have been saving up all of our excess offense since we plated 15 runs in the 3rd game. Hopefully that would be a sign of things to come . . .

Bad: We managed to score a total of 9 runs while being swept by Los Alamos at HOME. Nothing else to say here. That drops our home record to an inexplicable 10-11 overall.

Welcome Back: 2B Desi Rochs didn't miss a beat coming back from a 4 week layoff. He batted .333/.360/.542/.902 for the week. One more week and we get to welcome SS Geoff Scott back to the lineup.

Another 3-3 sim, considering the way the Ale Division is going, that's a good thing.

Pedro Eires hit home run #300, the first BLB player to do so. He's had his ups and downs, a few strike outs here and there but 300 HRs is quite the achievement.

Eires is kind of like the BLB's Jim Thome. Not real flashy. Kind of almost forget he's out there sometimes. But the guy just quietly and productively hits bombs.

                    California Kodiaks (20-18)

                    2-1 @ Davenport
                    2-1 vs. Windy City

                    The Good
                    - Robby Shannon continues to rake. Up to 13 HR's now which paces all of the BLB. Pushed his OPS over 1.000.

                    - Joe Lavadie is just on a tear right now. .357/.397/.477/.874, 10.5 VORP

                    - Bullpen ERA is #1 in the league. Racked up 25 more K's this week.

                    The Bad
                    - Conan Wilkerson was denied his third win when closer Román Magueu gave up three runs in the top of the ninth against Windy City. Good news is we won the game in extra innings anyways.

                    - Victoro Díaz going down with a partial torn labrum. The game has him out for 8 months but thankfully due to the new injury system he'll get bumped to 4 months and make a September return to the rotation.

                    The Absurd
                    - After going 7 IP, and only giving up 1 ER in his first start of the year, the Kodiaks designated SP Dan Arpad for assignment. No word was given on why Arpad was sent packing. Taking his place in the rotation will be former second overall pick in the 1980 draft, Nick Duncan.

Next Week: 3 vs. Morgantown, 3 @ Carolina

Hmm... the +6.00 ERA? The 2.00+ WHIP? The negative VORP continuing from last season? The fact opponents are batting .324 off of him? The inability to get RH Batters out? The fact he's only 5'9"? Hangnail?!? Tell us!!

Nah, just a nasty affair with the GM's wife.

Another 3-3 sim for us this week.

Nothing real big to discuss, other than Rex Knight finally having a good sim. I believe this was his first appearance on the top performers list too.

Good to see Knight doing well. I always lump him and carbajal together for whatever reason and they both got off to slow starts. Hopefully they come around together.

speaking of Carbajal's I lost SS Raul Carbajal 11 months due to a concussion this last sim. I loved Carbajal and he was just tearing it up. I held out hope that his injury time could be adjusted but with concussions that wasn't the case. Hope he keeps his ratings.

                              Back-to-back 4-2 sims for Denver.

Selzter needs more AAA time. He's struggling. Borholder is having a strong month. Al-Sadat is following him, and Dane Browning remains consistent. I'm happy with their performances.

If Montero could actually hit or get on-base, he'd have over 20 stolen bases by now.

Pitching is doing pretty well...just about where I expect them to be. Jennings is getting called back up to see if maybe he can figure it out in his last option year or it's bye bye to him.

Denver should also avoid giving up future #300 home runs so we can stay out of the history books.
