0-7 sim. Injuries coming at us from everywhere. Lost Rancourt last week for 5-6 weeks. Lost Julian Orozco this sim. Curt Halpern for a month. Keith McCoy would be really nice to have right now. Too bad I'm a f**ing idiot.

As mentioned in the Freedom Week 4 preview in the Let's Light this Candle thread:

"T2WO4JICTH: Mel Woodbury is 2 HR shy of 200 for his BLB career."

Mel did in fact hit 2 HRs this week to reach that career milestone. He was also named the in-game IL Best Batter for April. He put up a line of .329 / 10 HR / 17 R / 21 RBI during the month.

So, props to the best offensive player in franchise history. In fact his nickname should be changed from "Doorbell" to "The Franchise".

6-1 sim to get back to .500

Lost rookie Jerry Ferrell for the season. He was off to a very good start too and was expected to be a major contributor. I always have poorly timed injuries. I have 4 guys supposed to be on my 40 man roster on the DL right now. I have wonderful luck.

a 6-1 SIM here as well with a 2 game split with Pawtucket, 2 game sweep of Pitt, and took all 3 from Syracuse over the weekend. My pitching is holding the team together, and now there is a serious logjam with Combs coming back up and throwing nicely. Just 2 games back in a clogged division, although I'd like to think without my 1-man rotation fubar I'd be at least tied for first.

A very ugly 2 - 5 week. Most games weren't even close. SPs Lanny Krieger and Igor Goderie are really struggling. They both pitched very well for me last season. What to do, what to do?...

With the exception of Sin City, the Lager teams are really bloodying each others' nose. The Gamblers are dominating inside the division; but they're struggling outside of it.

I wish I could get something out of my bullpen, but they walk too many guys.

Impressed with Lang and Noke so far but am hoping Goodwin and Gonzo can step their games up.

- Stephens is 2-0 with a 1.44 ERA...my man crush continues.
- SP Athey is 4-1 and he hit a HR this week.
- The fans have filled our new seats every game

- Bing finally comes back after his 9 month injury...to blow out a knee and be out for 2-3 months. Now that's some BS.

Good to get out of the worst month in franchise history. I can't believe the number of players that are slumping all at the same time.

Lost Ramirez to his annual injury for 2 months. My 3rd baseman who had 12 errors last year already has 9. Unearned runs are killing us. We simply can't play worse. I'm doing nothing. This team should go on a .700 win % for awhile, or we'll just collapse in the hangover. Either way it's up to them.

Holding strong! Tied for first place after splitting with Hartford, Maine and taking 2 of 3 from Los Lunas. I really really need to do something about my bullpen.

Good: SP Ben Irvin picked up 2 W's to push his season record to 4-1. He threw 14 solid innings giving up 1 ER for the week. The offense as a whole performed much better this week than recent weeks. Mel Woodbury hit 2 HR's and reached 200 for his career. No injuries to speak of. 1 more week and the offense starts getting some missing pieces back.

Bad: CL Joe Alveraz is scuffling a bit recently. 1 BS this week (though he did pick up the W) and damn near blew another one. Dinosaur Merlin Thompson picked up 2 SV's this week due to Alveraz's ineffectiveness. #5 SP Dave Sievewright was abysmal managing to go a total of 7.2 innings in 2 starts. We're going to need to address that spot in the rotation before too long.

The unexplainable: Joe Aurillo continues to pitch well, but gets no run support. Only 1 win so far (1-2 record) this year despite a 1.81 ERA/1.03 WHIP and averaging over 7.1 IP per start. At least the team is 4-2 in his starts.

Wilmington 5 -- Virginia 3 : Monday, April 27, 1987

I don't know if 1987 was the wettest summer in U.S. History, but I've had at least 5 rain delays this season and almost every one of them has caused a problem for my team. In this case, Rookie Pancho 'Ironfist' Herrera was dealing an absolute GEM!! 6.0 innings, 87 pitches, 2 hits, 10K, 2 BB. Just nasty! Threw all of 6 pitches in the 6th. Rain delay comes. Sits for 60 minutes, can't answer the bell for the 7th. Bullpen comes in a falls apart. Mother nature is a BITCH!! But super nice outing
for the kid.

Wilmington 4 -- Virginia 1 : Tuesday, April 28, 1987

Anticipated a good outing from Gugs and he didn't dissappoint. Jeff Franklin was decent, but our hitters were handled most of the day. Lot of lazy fly balls. Tom Zimmerman, who has been a great FA signing for us with the bat, coughed up two errors in this game. Josh Poling went deep to right-center in the 5th for his 6th bomb of the year.

Washington 20 -- Virginia 2 : Wednesday, April 29, 1987

A 13 run inning!!! 13 runs!!! Good Lord! 17 Washington hitters came to the plate in the 4th inning and battered the ball and the Colonials' soul. The lone highlight of the game was Alberto Hernando's 1st HR of the season... a towering shot that measured 433 ft to dead center. Colonial ownership have offered a full refund to the 35,681 in attendence for witnessing that effort.

Virginia 7 -- Washington 1 : Thursday, April 30, 1987

Still reeling from the most embarassing loss in franchise history, the Colonials came into the game with an issue on the mound. The previous days hammering had pressed scheduled starter Elieis Vizcarra into
an appearance and their were question about whether or not he'd be able to go. He looked good early and confidently pitched through the 1st before some shoulder tightness caused Pitching Coach Marvin LaPointe
to pull the plug after just 14 pitches. George McSwain and Errol Blue followed, themselves exausted from an already taxing week. In the 5th, LaPointe made the unconventional call to the 'Pen for Closer and IL Pitcher of the Month (April) Vernon Simmonds for a rare early appearance. 'Old Blue' was up for the challenge as he finished off the game Goose Gossage style, giving up just 2 hits in 5 innings of work for the W. Josh Poling poked his 7th round-tripper - a two-run line shot over the left field wall.

Virginia 6 -- California 1 : Friday, May 1, 1987

Leaders lead - and Joe Arrendondo is a leader. With a battered bullpen looking more like a M*A*S*H unit, Arrendondo took to the bump on Friday night, put the team on his shoulders and gave every other arm the night off. He scattered 7 hits in his complete game effort. 5K, 1 BB and a 4th inning HR to DuPois would be the notable line.

California 8 -- Virginia 4 : Saturday, May 2, 1987

Nate Magness continues to struggle in '87, getting touched up for 5 earned in 4.1 innings of work. His control looked better than in his previous two starts, but he was being hit hard all day. Some late
power flashes by Vincent Nino (6) and Xalbador Medine (3) made the score slightly more respectable, but it was never close.

California 5 -- Virginia 4 : Sunday, May 3, 1987

A battle of Top Prospects would round out the 3-game series as 'Ironfist' squared off head to head with Conan 'Checkmate' Wilkerson. When the dust settles, Wilkerson took the first round with a 7.1 inning win. Herrera wasn't bad, in fact, his numbers compared favorably to his counterpart, but he battled the walk and just threw too many pitches. Dale O'Hegarty (2) and Jose Llombart (6) hit HRs, but neither could spark the team.

NOTES FROM THE WEEK:
- Vernon Simmonds wins the IL Pitcher of the Month. Pretty rare honor for a reliever.

- Alberto Hernando through out two attempted base-stealers in California. On the season, only 4 people have attempted to steal on the 1986 Gold Glover -- 3 of them have been mowed down.

- Tom Zimmerman was our best hitter this week going .381/.480/.571
