Well we're bringing up Toiguichi. He will be the heir apparent to Kirby next year. He's the rare 1B with power and speed. Like crazy speed. Check out his stats for an idea of what this kid can do.

He's the #5 prospect in the BLB. We were gonna wait for Spring Training but he's just bored at AAA.

      CF Emmitt Stearnes

Originally acquired in a trade with Los Alamos in 1982. After two years of hitting .240 in Triple-A, the 23-year-old has had a great season in 1987. With Miguel Angel Padilla down for the week, Stearnes will get some playing time versus lefties. Top 10 Org prospect.

        1B Curt Rutledge
        Top 20 Organizational Prospect

In what will be his last year in the prospect list, 25-year-old 1B Curt Rutledge will make his debut this September for the Denver Bulls.

Rutledge has batted over .300 for a majority of his minor league career. Though, not possessing much power for his position, his patience and smooth stroke has been marked as underrated by evaluators in Denver.

In his second full season at Tucson (AAA), Rutledge is enjoying his most productive professional season, garnering a much warranted promotion to the big leagues. He will backup fellow rookie 1B Norm Seltzer as Denver makes a push into the postseason.

Two key September call-ups for the Colonials in terms of guys who are expected to contribute next season:

          Jerry Morgan

          Drafted 2.22 in 1984
          #18 in BA Top 100

          This Season:
          AA - 8-1 - 1.73 ERA - 0.96 WHIP - 84K/19BB
          AAA - 6-0 - 2.00 ERA - 1.06 WHIP - 87K/21BB

Loved him when I drafted him... but fell out of Scout's favor for a few seasons. Did not make him debut on the BA Top Prospects list till '87 when he debuted at #7. Patience has been the key letting him find his groove in A-ball and never giving up.

Currently our Scout sees him as a "Potential #1/#2" and at 21 he's ready for the show. We see him as our #4 next season and the future #2/3.

He'll make his debut in the Washington series

          ***

          Jerry Collins

          Drafted 3.5 in 1985
          #12 on ORG Top 20

          This Season:
          AA - 4-2 - 10 Saves
          AAA - 1-5 - 16 Saves - 16 for 16 in Save Opps

Collins is another one of the Bullpen prospects that Virginia has spent early picks on in the last 4 drafts. We see Collins as a potential Set-up man who should someday combine with Jayson McQueen for a devastating 8th-9th punch.

Scouts call this guy's potential as "...one of the most feared relievers in the game" at only 19. The athletic kid and native Michigander leaves AAA Detroit after converting all of his AAA Save opportunities in earning his call-up. He has 6 pitches that he throws with confidence and the stamina to put in long innings if pressed into duty.

He'll spend September in the 4 slot among relievers and as the #2 Set-up behind McSwain.
          The Great One!

          To many rings to count...

Looks like no rookie call-ups this season. Bringing back a couple of veterans to cover for injuries, and hopefully generate a little extra push as we chase down the wild card.

Speaking of injuries...Looks like my 24 year-old 3B Amoldo Andradez is going to be injury prone. He missed 23 weeks due to 3 separate injuries this season.

C Victor Alvarez made his BLB debut this week as a September callup. He crept onto the Baseball America top 100 list during the middle of the season and just leapfrogged our other top 100 catcher (Jim Valee - injured at AAA) after this last sim. He got into 4 games and picked up his 1st BLB hit and homerun on the same swing. He'll get a few more opportunities at playing time as the season winds down and then probably start next year at AAA.
