    Carolina Tobs- Week 3

    2-1 vs Windy City
    2-2 @ Davenport

    The Good
-Tim Nathan pays immediate dividends. He went 2-0 in his starts this week, pitching 15 innings with a 3.00 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. If he can pitch like this all season, I'll be very happy.

-Dan Hogan had a big week, hitting .400 with a 1.224 OPS. 3 HRs, 8 RBI.

-Angelo Opio drove in 11 runs. Not a great week average wise, but he came through in timely situations.

    The Bad

    -
The rest of the lineup didn't do a whole lot. I'm not expecting to have a really potent lineup, but Hogan and Opio can't be the only guys producing.

-Rich Sewell will be out for 3 months. He's not the best bullpen arm we've got, but provides pretty solid depth in the middle innings.

    The Ugly

-Matt Rogers blew his second save of the season already, giving up 4 ER to blow a 3 run lead over Davenport in the 9th. Life after Cabezas could be rough if he doesn't pick it up. Hector Solis and Bill Hogan didn't provide much relief either.

Not 6-13, but under .500 and awful in one run games.

Also after digging found that we have given up an astounding 24 UN-earned runs.

By FAR the worst in the league. THe next worse is 14. Our defense numbers are awful as well. We're giving away more than 1 run a game. When 3-8 in one run games, that makes all the difference. We're a good defensive ball club, I think we'll turn it around.

It's been like bizarro month. I think what we're seeing now and what we'll see at the end are very different. You shouldn't be this bad... Wilmington should be better... Maine should be better... There's guys who have 5 bombs in three weeks that probably shouldn't hit 5 all season.... It's been a weird start to the season.

I think what we see right now is exactly how we will see it come October.

I don't think so. I don't think Maine is a .550 team. I don't think Wilmington and Windy City are teams who will have .300 records. No way.

Hell, even on your team... Nago has 5 HRs in three weeks... that kid should be hitting 6-8 a season at most.

I think this has been a strange start.

You mean Llombart, Nino and Poling? You shouldn't talk that way about your players and surely you couldn't have meant Nago.

Shhhhhh... the grown ups are talking. When we are ready to play the "bait people into an argument" game, we'll have JJ let you know.

No, I agree. Just trying to be funny.

I will say though, I think Nago can hit 15. My scout has him (at work, so I could be off), 6-6-4-6-5 potential. I think a guy with legit contact and 4 power, can hit 15.

It may just be a hot start, but I will say he hits... .330, .400 OBP, 15 HRs, probably score 115 runs, 210 hits, 75 RBI....

Tex Briggs has been tearing up AA, and I can't decide if I want to promote him yet. On one hand, he's hitting .383 with 2 homers, but on the other hand he's only 20 and it's only been 12 games.

                      I noticed that.

I know a lot of people said "Who?" when he was part of that trade, but my scout(s) always liked that kid.

That's pretty steep. That would be an MVP season. The 100 run/200 hit threshhold is the dream of the 'lead-off' man. He has the tools. My scout does have his power at a 3 though.

                          He has done 200/100 before.

                            I know.

                            It was two separate thoughts...

                            1) The numbers you were predicting would certainly be an MVP level season

                            2) The bar for a leadoff hitter should be 200/100.

Trust me, O'Hegarty has been chasing it but can't get the hits. He's actually hurt by the fact that he's developed a 100+ BB per season eye. So, that's my new goal for him...

                            200 Hits/100 Runs/100 Walks/50 SBs - That's an epic season...

Last year he did 166 Hits/102 Runs/109 Walks/44 SB... I think he has it in him. He's stole 48 bags before.

That would be a hell of a season. Nago is better as a base runner than a base stealer. I could force the issue, but he is probably a 15-20 steal a year guy. 2-4 this season...terrible.
