  • 1 player made the top 100 out of our draft picks:

    3.17 (65th overall) - OF Hsuang-tsung Nan checks in at #29.

He was the first pick in the draft for us since Davenport was busy using our #1 and #2 picks. Looks like the Brawlers put them to good use.

He somehow managed to get into 1 game already in A ball as a pinch runner and immediately picked up a SB. He's only 17 and very raw so there is plenty of time for him to fall off the face of the earth.

The rest of our picks don't rank overall, but 3 picks did hit our Top 20. Of course with the state of our farm system that isn't terribly difficult.

      • I'd like to know what Clay's talking about...

We had one top 100 guy, our 6th round pick 1B Toyoshige Yamauchi who came in at #63. I liked him a lot during the draft and it's nice to see a pick show signs of value this early.

On the other hand 1.11 SP Jerry Wilson did not debut in the top 100... or my organizational top 20. SWEET.

I may have just been lucky but for what it is worth, I'll explain what I did. My scout is a 70 for amatuer scouting BTW.

          1) I spent a lot of money on scouting and allocated most of it to amatuers.

          2) I treated the draft list that the game produces as a 2nd scouting report and only chose players in the early rounds that were fairly high on the list and that my scout also liked.

          3) I discounted hitters position on the list by about one round if they were 7 or above for base stealing. I make this adjustment because it is my opinion that the list bumps players up far too much for speed relative to how much value that speed actually has.

          • Considering that prior to the updated list I had a 2nd rated system, I'm happy to see three of my picks crack my organizational top 20.

SP Willie Stevens squeezed in at 20 (Round 1)
OF Kenan Kipkorir placed at 11 (Round 3)
C Cristobal Garza made it at 14 (Round 10)

I dropped to fourth best system but I'm not surprised that Davenport and Mississipi pushed me.

            • Does anybody know if there is a setting for scouting accuracy in OOTP 9? If so, ours is probably set to normal and I think it would make sense to bump it up. I know in X they do have such a setting and the scouting reports one gets for amatuers aren't worth much if the setting is normal.

              • I didn't get anyone in the Top 100... 4 of my Top 5 are playing or have played in the BLB this season... no 1st Round pick this year (Vincent Nino)...long story short... I'm expecting a mighty fall!

I noticed that this is also true of the very first pick in the draft. IMO the scouting system needs some serious work.

#3 is very interesting. Probably a smart approach. But you are always a non-steal guy. OBP and homers used to be the Davenport way.

In the last few rounds (8,9,10) I usually draft players that are either a.) a great fielder, or b.) an elite runner. That way, they have SOME value, if they end up being only a .220 or so hitter. Versus trying to take the guy who adds nothing defensively or on the basepaths, while projecting to be a .240 guy.

I am fairly certain that that applies to on-line leagues too then. Assuming ours is set to normal, I think we should consider increasing the accuracy after the season is over.

I've done this too on occassion though this year I just took the top remaining pitcher based upon the list since I hadn't taken many pitchers the last couple of years and I had a lot of pitchers in the low minors that needed to be cut.

I like to run, run, run and that's why I've stuck it out with Orlin Montero (seems to be paying off bit by bit every season) and Monty Blair.

I'd run more if I managed the games myself but when I try that in an on-line league, I get tired of watching guys get thrown out stealing third with two outs and the pitcher at bat. I guess you don't run into that problem over in the DL though.
