Actually... Luxury Tax pushes you into the black. HOWEVER... we need to make sure this is correct. I'm not sure Luxury Tax pushing you into the black for the start of '87 is the same as finishing in the black for '86.

If it's treated as "finishing '86" the Luxury Tax would push California from RED to BLACK.... and conversely push Syracuse from BLACK to RED.

The rest of the awards still need to be calculated... but these teams will definately be in the RED:

Denver
Maine
Pittsburgh
Sin City

Cali and 'Cuse will depend on the Luxury Tax.

I should make it. There are plenty of teams over 100 million in total expenses.

The luxury tax is distributed to teams with revenue under the league average; who receives it has nothing to do with expenses so a team can actually pay and receive the tax.

I am sure that it was announced that the determination of whether or not a team finished in the red was done after the luxury tax was distributed for both paying and receiving teams.

Also, at least at one time a schedule was provided by Andrew in which teams were penalized 5% of the shortfall the first year that they finished in the red and 10% the second. The third and fourth years was worse but I don't recall exactly what they were.
