13 games. That’s all that stands between the California Kodiaks and their first ever trip to the BLB playoffs. 13 games that will either make or break their 1986 season. 13 games to prove once and for all that they are the best the Porter division has to offer this year.
“I still have complete faith in this team” GM David Lint said in a conference call. “Our pitching has been excellent in September, but we’re going to need more. We need to finish strong in September and put it into overdrive come October.”
13 games. 13 chances to win, 13 chances to lose.
Looking at the remaining schedule California will head to Wilmington for three games starting Tuesday and then head home to finish the year on a ten game home stand. In those ten games the Kodiaks will play all three of their divisional foes, Baltimore, Batavia and Philadelphia. Ace of staff Oswaldo Escarcaga believes the key to the rest of the season will be how the team fairs in its last three road games. “I’m excited to get back home, but the real key is Wilmington… if we can slip out of there with just one win I still like our chances to make an appearance in the playoffs.”
In essence California actually has a two game cushion over Philadelphia, and a three game cushion over Baltimore and Batavia as all three teams would only tie California if they ended with the same record and thus would have to face off in a one game playoff at the end of the year. Manager Eichiro Sanwa doesn’t want to see the Kodiaks push their luck that far though. “ 私が私たちがよくプレーできると確信していてこれらが13のゲームを持ちこたえて、うわべは部門を取ります。勝ってくださいそうすれば私たちが中にいます。それは、私にとって重要なものです。”
“Well put” said California 1B Robby Shannon.
13 games. One division championship on the line.
