  • SIM COMPLETE - 1986 - Regular Season 10

    Next sim: Friday

  • #2
1-5 sim, but a lot of close losses. Two of the losses to the Bats were by 1 run, one of them in extra innings. This team is getting there... albeit slowly.

Oh, one nice thing from this sim. Don Leonard, in his AA debut, strikes out 15 batters. I was nervous about starting him at AA too! Let's hope he keeps it up. Curt Dodson is also doing nicely and has sustained a .300+ BA for a while now.

Well that sim certainly changes my outlook on the season.

I'm seriously the worst performing big-market team.

Really great sim for Syracuse at 5-1. Swept Los Al and took two out of three from Windy City, with our only loss coming in extra innings.

Raul Zamora is back: Since returning from injury, Zamora has hit .342 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HRs, and a .963 OPS in 73 ABs.

Julian Orozco got the call up and pitched 6.1 shutout innings, only allowing 2 hits and 1 walk. And then he got injured... out for 2-3 months.

Maureo Gonez has hit 14 HRs on the season, 3 away from matching his '85 totals and only 5 off of his career high. Nice to have some power around in Syracuse.

After the sim we sit three back of Dallas in the Pilsner and two behind Hartford for the wildcard. Hopefully we can keep it up.

            Not this season.

My lineup is so barren right now, it's crazy. We have EG, Bill Fallon's shell of his former self, and 7 other randoms.

            Let the rebuild begin (again)!

If it makes you feel better, don't forget that even Windy City took a year off.

                Truth.

Speaking of Windy City...can someone explain this whole Vernon Simmonds thing?

Also, some of the minor league All-Stars have been announced:

                  AA
3B Curt Dodson (.338/.389/.860)- former #1 overall pick is having a formidable season
CF Cisco Garcia (.354/.390/.902)- acquired in a trade from Syracuse, could project as a good reserve or even a starter, only 21 years old
SP Jerry Ferrell (7-1, 3.83 ERA, 1.18 WHIP)- 2nd round pick last year, he's more of a control expert but has been the best pitcher on the Lexington staff so far this year, only 21 and projects as a middle of the rotation pitcher
CL Jerry Gaston (10 SV, 1.18 ERA)- my scout doesn't like him but he's done nothing but perform, strikes out more than a batter an inning and is 22 years old

                  A
2B Julian Chavez (.352/.384/.802)- he's a 6th rounder from last year, is hitting real well this year but not for a ton of power yet, he's more of a developmental project and is still a ways off, 2B is wide open for him at the big league level though

Lots of extra inning and one run losses this season....in addition to a few injuries. Still in all the races, but the next 3 games against the 'Cuse should clear up the picture a bit.

                      Around The Horn
The Stout Division had its way with the Lager Division this sim; going 17 - 7 (.708). It was just plain fugly. As for my team...Well, you know what they say...You can't spell "Javelinas" without "JV".

The Millers now have $26M tied up in just two injured players. JJ, you'd better write your Congressman and see if you can get some of that bailout money the Feds are throwing around.

It says here that Windy City had a 3 - 3 sim...That can't be right.

                      Big League Banter
The bad news: The Furry Pigs go 2 - 4 against the mighty Stout Division (1 - 2 Vs Virginny, and 1 - 2 Vs Morgantown).
The good news: We managed to increase our lead in the Lager Division by one game.

I've decided to make a radical change in our team strategy going forward. From now on, I want every batter to try to HIT the ball, preferably between the infielders and the outfielders. We've tried NOT HITTING the ball for 2 1/2 months now, and it just doesn't seem to be working. Pitchers...Keep doing what you're doing. Although I would like to ask my Setup Reliever and Closer to stop giving away the lead. It turns out, we only get credit for the win if we're leading after the NINTH inning.

                      The Farm Report
AAA - Boulder City Big Horns are mimicking the parent club. Decent pitching and sporadic hitting have put us one game out of 1st. At least a few guys on this club can put the ball over the fence when they do make contact. But if you think the Lager Division stinks in the BLB; check out the Lager Division standings in AAA!

AA - Mohave Valley Dust Devils, on the other hand, are having an excellent season so far (40 - 17, tied for 1st with Frisco). With only one player going to the all-star game (CL Xavier Bouchard); this has truly been a team effort.

A - Socorro Stampede are likewise having an excellent season so far (41 - 16, in 1st by 6 games over Peoria). With 6 players headed to the all-star game, we're hoping that's a sign our Scout is closer to a genius than a moron.

Another winning sim for the Kodiaks as we go 4-2 against the DL. Very happy with the four wins, could have had more if we didn't implode... but with Pittsburgh being down due to the injuries... I'll gladly take the wins anyway I can get them.

6-0 sim including four 1-run games.

                          Interesting.
