Seriously...My scout says Leonard is "Maybe a 5th starter" and Hudson is projected to be a "bench bat". I'm going to draft according to Body-Mass-Index. Or maybe alphabetically by height.

Mine says Leonard is a frontline starter and Hudson has a high ceiling..."if he can reach it."

My scout said Hudson should be the first picked according to 'draft list'. So that's a positive, I think.

With their highest pick since selecting David Tardif with the first overall pick in the 1981 Amateur Draft the Bandits select:

              2B Brad Christian

              John Brabrant comes into this years' draft as a rookie scout after playing in the league for 4 years and 4 teams. He really liked Hudson as the best player in the class, but he preferred Christian just ahead of Leonard saying;

"...has some impact tools. Still trying to translate those tools into performance, but when he does look out!"

Time will tell if the Bandits new scout is better than his lifetime .258 avg.

With the 4th pick of the 1986 draft, the California Kodiaks select SP Conan 'Checkmate' Wilkerson.

Clocking in at an 97-99 mph, Wilkerson looks to be a strike out king. Already advanced at 4-4-3 (4-4-4 OSA) Wilkerson should be an extremely fast riser and should make his BLB debut sometime in September of 1987.

He's also got a nickname... which after hearing Clay talk about it... seems to be a good indicator that the guy actually has some sort of potential.

Liked Hudson, but had quite a few bats higher...

Christian is a non-factor on my board...

Liked Conan... but way down on my board. Thought he'd still be around at 1.16 when I pick.

When it came down to it, it was tough for me to pick between the two. My scout viewed them very similarly with a slight preference for Leonard.

My scout was about the same as yours it sounds like. Although we liked COnan more than you.

I should qualify... I didn't think Conan would be there at 1.16... I liked him more than that... but I saw him more in the 8-12 ballpark and, with a few reaches, could be there at 16. I like him quite a bit.

Also - Sidenote - Conan is far and away going to be the leader of the WBC Mexico team. Instantly gives Mexico a #1 WBC Starter.

                        • No surprises at all so far according to my interpretation of my scout's reports.

Christian should have been the second hitter taken and a case could have been made to take Wilkerson above Leonard though I had him as the #2 pitcher.

                          • My scout loved Christain and thought he was the best hitter in the draft. i don't really agree and though Hudson was a bit better. Wilkerson was one of the top 2 pitchers.

                            • I had all 4 as the top four picks in my draft. The pitchers are rated lower than the two hitters according to Brabant and Wilkerson's scouting report states he will be a very good pitcher... if his elbow holds up. (Which is why I went with Christian) He also thought that Leonard would be a solid #2 or #3 starter.

                              • Christian was on the top of my list too, so should end up being a great pick.
FYI my picks are in and ready to be selected, so even if Denver doesn't get his pick in, mine should auto-draft as soon as it gets to my name.
