There's two players that I love in this draft. One is a SP that I think is can't miss. The other, I don't trust my scout. If he's right, I want this player badly. But I just don't trust him.

As much as I enjoyed winning more games this season, this draft is going to be a new experience. Picking 1.16 is one thing... picking 1.16 AND picking behind a lot of guys who I know are very "skilled" draftniks is even worse. With deadline deals, I use to having a high pick and at least one more in the first round. This time around I have one low one and no 2nd Rounder. Don't get me wrong, that deal worked for me. Trading up last season to get Pancho Herrarra worked at the time and works now. I see it as basically getting him for a 2.17 pick. That's a steal for a Top 5 Prospect in my opinion.
I'm holding out hope that my Scouts are as good/lucky as I feel they were last season. My first two picks are BA Top 100 prospects and my third pick is already "Ready for AAA" and could be pitching in the Bigs by the end of this season. Let's hope they find more diamonds!

The obvious response is that you guys want some tell all to insure that the guy you pick early in the draft is at least a serviceable player and unfortunately, that just doesn't happen in baseball. This is posted in the manual:
In the world of OOTP leagues, in addition to individual team scouting directors, there also exists an unbiased scouting agency known as the OOTP Scouting Association (OSA). OSA scouts players on a regular basis, and can provide a second data point for you in analyzing scouting reports. Even if you fire your scouting director, OSA can still provide you with some data on players. Unfortunately, OSA is woefully understaffed, and as a result, OSA only updates player scouting reports annually. OSA scouts are also woefully underpaid, and as a result, they can be wildly inaccurate at times. As with most scouting, the younger the player is, the less likely OSA scouting reports are to be accurate. Most scouting directors who are available for hire will provide better information than the OSA scouts do. The bottom line is that, whenever possible, you should use your own scouting department's information.

I don't think any one is looking for a magical elixer to make everything transparent. Hell, if that were the case we'd just turn scouting off.
I think the most important thing right now (IMO), and it makes a great case for not changing versions any time soon, is that we need to see how these players bear out of over time. The Great One!

Its whatever. Its just that the crying about how there's no correlation between OSA and your personal scouting team is tired and annoying. People are looking for guarantees, plain and simple. You've got recruits straight from high school, from college and all-over the world. And somehow every scouting team from every team should have the same Top 20 recruits? I doubt that.
We verified that scouting directors with similar scouting preferences view the draft the same way. Next we haven't even seen results from this drafting system, yet almost everyone is already complaining.Last edited by Delandis; 02-24-2009, 11:29 AM.

Yes, but, and there's always a but, shouldn't most of us all see a good 4-5 players as big time 'can't miss' (most likely) type players?
I find it hard to believe there is so much second guessing by teams as every team seems to be at odds with anothers selections.
For example, Curt Dodson, the #1 pick last year. I think half the teams had him as a below average prospect... You just don't see that.California Kodiaks - GM - 1982-2013

I think most people in here have really only made comment about the number of people that they liked.
Where's the issue?The Great One!

And if anyone's whining about anything, it's not OSA, it's the lack of a 2nd-6th opinion(s) like there were in OOTP 8.
And to echo Linty, there should be some sort of consensus (on some guys). No one thought A-Rod, or Jr, or Josh Hamilton were 3-2-3-3-4 guys when they went #1. It doesn't mean it's unrealistic if they turned out to be- it's just that it's unrealistic to have scouts going both ways.Charlotte Knights - OSFL

There should be four or five guys that everyone agrees with, not a guy half the teams see as a stud and the other half sees as a turd. Thats just not realistic. But whatever.

I think the thing that some people are missing is the whole "he sucks" vs. "he's a bust". With the top picks in baseball its never "wow that guy blows" its always 5 years down the line, which I'm fine with.
These guys all ended up sucking big time, but when they were picked it wasn't "wow that guys a functioning retard" like it is here.
