    Can you say "Fugly"?

The Furry Pigs limp into the playoffs going 2 - 5 in the final week. To say Pitt is heavily favored in our best-of-seven series is a gross understatement. In fact...Vegas says they'll take the series in just 3 games! (The league's mercy rule will be employed after that.)

I hope the fans enjoy their one playoff series this year.

This is the '86 Draft Order:

      1. Mississippi Storm
      2. Davenport Brawlers
      3. Los Alamos Bandits
      4. California Kodiaks
      5. Denver Bulls
      6. Hartford Whalers
      7. Sin City Gamblers
      8. Pawtucket Patriots
      9. Mississippi Storm (from Syracuse in Don Stevens trade)
      10. Morgantown Mohawks
      11. Hyundai Dinos
      12. Windy City Playboys (from Dallas in Nathan Macowl trade)
      13. Baltimore Bulldogs
      14. Windy City Playboys
      15. Batavia Muckdogs
      16. Virginia Colonials
      17. Los Lunas Javelinas
      18. Indianapolis Clowns
      19. Carolina Tobs
      20. Dallas Snappers (from Philly in Nathan Macowl trade)
      21. Washington Bats
      22. Wilmington Wildcats
      23. Maine Guides
      24.Pittsburgh Millers
Here's the first round edited with trades- Syracuse didn't have a phenomenal September/October so my pick from the Stevens trade turned into a top 10. I know I will screw them up but having two picks in the top 10 and three picks in the first 25 (roughly, sandwiches will change it) is pretty appealing.

Two early picks can definitely play quick dividend. In 83, I took Nate Magness at 1.1 and Jerry Tracy at 1.6. Magness won 17 games for me two years later while Tracy hit 14 bombs and drove in 68 batting in the bottom 1/3 of the lineup.

In both cases, you could make an argument for an alternate player (Magness v Denver Brode & Tracy v Pat Brown). I took the older player in both cases in hopes that they be realistically fast-tracked.... they were.

Compare that to my 1st Rounder in '82 - Yoritoki Maeda.... he's gonna be a stud (I think), but I draft him at 16 and he just got to AAA in September.

Anyway... my team sucks... so take my advice with a grain of salt... but older players seem to pay quicker dividends.

That's a great point- I'll just enjoy the playoffs right now because I'm bound to screw this up. I actually have a few decent prospects in the org and this draft could really help me shore up the farm even more.

I just hope its a nice deep draft.

When you're at 1.1... it doesn't have to be deep.

In fact, I'd argue with two of the first nine picks... you should really want exactly 9 no-brainers. You get two of them and a bunch of good teams get none.

My thread really never took off. The format was even copyable for all the other owners. How about some money for each article we write next year!

We were quite happy with how we played this year, well at least at the end of the year. +15 was only tied by Pitt for best improvement from last season.

You do get money for each article... but you have to run them on the front page.
