    _______________

    6. CONTRACTS
    • A Team Option must contain a minimum buyout equal to:
      • (A) The difference between the highest guaranteed year salary and the amount of the team option (provided the option year $$ > the highest guaranteed year $$),
      • (B) 10% of the amount of the team option,
      • Whichever amount is greater.
    • Vesting option years are not allowed
    • Only one Team Option may be used per contract, and it must be in the last year of the contract. This prevents people from stacking Player Options after the Team Option.
    • Players cannot be signed to contract extensions until after they have received their second arbitration contract. Players become eligible for contract extensions once they have two "Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $xx through arbitration." in their player history.
    • For each contract year, the $$ value of an individual season must be at least 50% of the highest guaranteed season value

      Thanks Matt!

19-11 going 8-7 in ST2. Didn't finish with the best record but gave a lot of rest in the second half. Unfortunately we did have an injury, rookie ST invitee OF Zach Mitchell tore his quad and will miss 5-6 weeks (3 weeks remain). He was unlikely to make the active roster but after hitting .310/.846, he showed enough to be on the shortlist of call ups this season. No real key roster battles. Backup utility OF Elisha Ziegler won the job by default as he has run out of option years but he did hit .310/.789 in 64 PA. The final RP spot will be a revolving door all year but we start opening day with veteran Jeric Barradas over Jimmy Shipley.

On the pitching side, the most promising performance came from FA SP Dave Martwick, who will be making his rotation debut at 30-years-old. The former Canadian pitched 19.1 innings, gave up three runs, four walks and 17 strikeouts. On the flipside, his rotation mate Tom Sellers, struggled. He also struggled after being acquired from Pawtucket at the deadline last year and single-handedly lost us a key game in the ILDS.

On the hitting side, the most promising performance came from like I mentioned in ST1 is SS Pat Holes, but in ST2 LF Charles Farris kept his stats up as well: .302/.912, while only hitting two homers in 67 PA. The former 1st rounder will see more ABs this year than he has in a few years with the departure of a few players. Unfortunately, neither my 2B platoon nor my C platoon hit very well. The four players who will see time there (Tristan Logan, David Tripp, Lawrence Youmans and Johnny Thompson) hit roughly .225/.600. I expect them to hit a little better but never a good sign when the two positions you have to platoon and were worried about entering the off-season are your weakest ST performers.

The Bats also finished 19-11 after an 8-7 record in the second half of ST. We have one player injured, backup infielder Dave Taylor, who's out for 2 weeks. He's penciled in as my main utility infielder, so it's a minor blow to the team. I've got some versatile pieces, but I wish I'd have given Giovanni Devereaux more reps in the infield so he could more effectively be a super utility player. As long as Taylor is back in 2 weeks, we should be fine to roll with what we've got on the infield and rotate in Babbage or Devereaux when someone needs a day off.

The only spot up for grabs in the pitching staff will go to Griffin Downing. He didn't pitch that great in ST, but I like his ratings and he has a full year of AAA under his belt already, so I think he's the best option for what will hopefully be a limited role. Really, nothing too exciting about the roster battles or rookie debuts in DC for this Opening Day. We are extremely similar to what we were last year.
