    6. CONTRACTS
    • A Team Option must contain a minimum buyout equal to:
      • (A) The difference between the highest guaranteed year salary and the amount of the team option (provided the option year $$ > the highest guaranteed year $$),
      • (B) 10% of the amount of the team option,
      • Whichever amount is greater.
    • Vesting option years are not allowed
    • Only one Team Option may be used per contract, and it must be in the last year of the contract. This prevents people from stacking Player Options after the Team Option.
    • Players cannot be signed to contract extensions until after they have received their second arbitration contract. Players become eligible for contract extensions once they have two "Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $xx through arbitration." in their player history.
    • For each contract year, the $$ value of an individual season must be at least 50% of the highest guaranteed season value

One addition for the Bats this sim as Dave Esterline joins the bullpen. He had a bit of an off year last year, but I think he's a good candidate to bounce back to his normal production and is young enough to be here for several seasons. I think we've got one of the top bullpens in the league, plenty of depth and top-end talent out there to hopefully take a ton of pressure and innings off of the starting rotation.

Looking at my roster, I think we're pretty much set for the season. I like the look of this team, for the most part. But I should, seeing as it's the most expensive team in the league right now.

I don't see any big changes in the Jan. 1 rescout. Reger Zuniga snuck onto the Top Players list at #20, and few players in my system shuffled around on our team ratings, but nothing major from any of my top prospects.

A bit of a surprising sim for us.

We added the aged-wonder in A.J. Ingle to set up Tom Kastner.

Somehow Micah Scott decided our deal was the best one and comes over in a three-year deal with an opt out after year one. Micah has had a good career and had one of his finest seasons this past year for Wilmington.

We also added Jarrod Richards and Pat Raftery on cheap deals to hit lefties.

Finally, our scout isn't a fan of Nash Daraja but OSA thinks there's some potential so we took a dive in IAFA and signed him for $2.5 mm.

Oh, and we just added Dusty Dills via trade. We landed each of our targets except for Tom Sellers. And I don't think we did poorly with the contracts we handed out. Kastner is the only long-term one and he's 27. Even with Dills, we are not in debt and I didn't sacrifice any development or amateur scouting to get it done. Pretty successful free agency.

Great offseason in Denver... The Scott signing hurts... We offered $60M over 3 years, which feels like it's more than $45M over 3 years... We still have almost $40M, and not really much to spend it on, which is a bit disappointing.

Did you change your initial offer? When I went to negotiate, I think he was asking me for 1yr at $20M.

It was originally $27/$13.5PO, then went to $28/$14PO/$20TO... In our deal, and Denver's he can opt out after one year, but ours pays $12M more... Maybe I shouldn't have added the third year, and just left it...

My guess in how the game programmed it is...He can make $28mm or $15mm no matter what the first year. Great. That's a win for California.

But then you offer less on the second year than I did. AND, you offer a team option on the third.

My offer gives him the option to make $45mm. I can't control it.

Your offer gives him the option to make $42mm. And you control the rest.

In each deal he can opt out after year two and make more money but if he tanks in year two, he is guaranteed $15mm, but with you he's not guaranteed anything and has to test the market as a failed starter.

That's just my guess in the programming. It's a mix of security, control and money.

You're likely right... That makes total sense written that way!
